How much are you guys paying for the Yamaha bikes? I was going to buy one for my kid as it was supposed to be cheaper then the KTM/Husky bikes but I am being quoted $6300 OTD. Does this sound correct.?

6,399 Euros? (Haha, sorry - Pounds?)

YZ85s are $4,699. Here in California, if you paid full price, plus $400 in freight & setup, plus a DOC fee of $50, plus tax, plus license you'd still only be at $5625. And that would be a sizeable profit for the dealer. I'm not sure of the specifics about taxes and transportation in the UK, but 6,399 sounds high to me. Are they charging a dealer markup on top of retail?

I'd offer them something more like $5K or $5200 out the door and see. They may not take it in this day and age (no inventory,) but at least you can have a starting point to work from.
There is not a TON of profit in motocross bikes, but there's a little room. Ask and see.

EDIT: What's the MSRP in Great Brtiain?

There is about $200 in markup between MSRP and dealer invoice on the 85. With $400 in freight, they're making about another $100. So, not much, but $6300 OTD is preposterous at best.

I'm actually in Bermuda right now and was pricing a bike out of the U.S. The MSRP in the U.K. is £4,499.

I was quoted $768 for freight $399 dealer fee and $489 assembly fee.

The savings isn't worth it IMO. Especially if you plan on going to supermini/big wheel at some point. The YZ takes a lot of work to get up to par with the KTM/Husky & doesn't perform nearly as well overall. Im not brand fanboy just have a ton of experience with 85 bikes over the years. I've seen so many kids switch after 6-12 months from YZ to KTM/Husky.........

I got mine (no tax because it was out of state) for $4899. Eventually I will get it titled in Ohio so add another couple hundred in tax. Picked ours up in early October.

We considered the KTM (no Husky dealers within 100 miles) since he was coming off a 65SX and it was a great bike. My son is a professional practicer and doesn’t race so the extra $1700 for the KTM plus the extra cost of parts just wasn’t worth it for us.
When he gets to 125s we’ll likely be back to KTM unless by some miracle Yamaha updates their 2-strokes. So far he is loving the 85. Suspension is great and strong motor. If you look at the paint too long on the frame you can literally scratch it will your eyes though.
