2018 leftover thoughts?

I am in the market for a new bike. That being said in the last two years I've had numerous bikes,

2006 CR125
2013 YZ134
2009 YZ250
2005 KX250
2007 YZ125
2015CRF250
2014 YZ250
2015 KX250F

With that being said I have been racing B class in the offroad world harescrambles etc... I've always been a premix hound love screaming those things and maintaining top ends is a breeze. I really had some fun on the 250f's but sold them due to fear of blowing one up suddenly. To many horror stories made me afraid to really rip them. I'm not in the position to throw down any kind of cash at the moment; but I have a solid job and good credit so have been considering a leftover 2018 rmz250 for 5k out the door. Another contender has been the 18 rmz450... I dont want to finance more than I can swallow so I'd like to stay somewhere under 6k. Just open to thoughts...

I don't want to attack the RMZ250 right away, but man those forks would be terrible offroad. The 18 RMZ 450 at least is on the new chassis but not sure how that suspension is out of the box.

If I was going to buy a 250f in that price range and don't want to dump money into it, I'd look at the Yamaha and Honda.

I have a clean 18 YZ250F that I rode this year and am looking to part with. It was freshly rebuilt and has B Kit suspension. I raced it in B250 in VCHSS this year and placed second after never racing that series in 8+ years. Willing to come back to VA to deliver it too.

I've got a buddy who had a yz250fx for a bit it was pretty sweet had 'the' button and all! Ive ridden the 2016 yz450fx also its super smooth but is a pig haha. The crf250rx looks super sick but $$$. I know the 2014 crf250 I had was sweet but seemed to wanna overheat in the tight stuff even with evans. Never had a Zuke so they sparked my interest with the price so low brand new. That Rmz is loaded, bet that thing is a solid rocket! Thinking about juts hitting up the credit union for a personal loan; give me some more options than dealer inventory and leftovers under 6k.

2012-2016 KTM 250/300 two-strokes are good value since the new model came out. $2,800 to $4000
You can probably find a 10-hour 2017-2018 250SX in your price range. $4500-$6000.
Just be prepared to fit some twin-chamber Showa forks or KYB SSS carts to get the bike to work to its full potential.

Any of your dealers have an RMX450Z in stock? Might be worth looking at for harescrambles. Wide ratio tranny, different compression ratio, and suspension better suited for offroad vs. MX.

If there are any left, I’d think they’re cheap.

I disagree with this statement. The AER48s work extremely well for off-road when set up properly.

i had a 2016 RMZ250 until last week, traded it in for a 2018 KTM 150XC-W. I was afraid i would miss the torque/low rev grunt of the 250F but not at all. If you are not a 200+pounds rider it might be something to consider (maybe little older 2014/15 in good condition).

the difference is amazing on the trail/harescrambles going from a 250F Motocross to a small bore smoker lightweight enduro bike.

Leftovers are definitely the way to go if buying new. Great deals can be found. And don’t con yourself into a “finance you can swallow ”. Save up and pay cash, even if it takes a bit longer. You will be glad you did.

Dont shy away from 250Fs from horror stories. If you buy a new one and take good care of it, it will take care of you.

Dont be afraid of financing. If you have enough cash to pay all but a grand or 2 and youre getting a better bike, then do it. A couple grand over 3-5 years isnt even bad if youre an average middle class person. The zooks are hard to sell and dont sell for much. Keep that in mind unless youre gonna ride it till the forks snap off.

Yz 250 is tough to beat. If I had to trade it I’d probably ask for a 19 450 and some cash ?

every 3 years I usually get a new bike. Sell mine while its still worth money and doesn't have high hours. Yea it sucks having a 150 dollar a month payment all the time but I always have a fresh bike and don't have to do any expensive maintenance. Most I have ever had to do is check the valves.

Just for resale value alone don't even touch Suzukis. Smartest move would be to find a low hour 13-16 KTM 250SX or XC and ride the shit out of it. In my opinion that gen motor is superior to the new ones..Or if youre dying for brand new and dont wanna go orange find a leftover YZ250f

I had a 2013 rmz 250 and I hated it. I bought a yz 250 and loved it but when it was time to get a new bike I was scared of the four strokes. Tried a 4 stroke again 2015 yz 250f and loved it. Suspension was great for woods when it was stock. I would STRONGLY suggest a Yamaha but that’s just my opinion. I may have just had some bad luck with the Suzuki.

Always had great luck with Suzuki's. Yes they are the least "exciting" bike on the market by far the most dependable. Stay away from the new 18 Yami 450.

Rode my friends 13 Rmz250 and it was slow compared to a stock 08 Rmz250. Idk but i thought the fuel injection system would be faster.
