I have a copy of a service manual on my work computer, I can take a look tomorrow.

There should be a dot on the cam near the teeth that lines up with either a dot on the cam bridge or the bolt for the piece that locks the cam in place.

You'll know when it's at tdc if you pull the bolt on the bottom right of the motor with the thick copper washer. You'll see a groove in the crank, and if you remove the washer you can thread the bolt in by hand. Then the tapered end of the bolt will fit into the groove in the crank locking it in place.

I just pick up an 18 and checked the valves. I marked the timing marks with paint to make it easier to see. put it in 5th rotate the tire until the marks lineup.
