I just purchased a new 2018 Honda crf250r from the dealer
It had fired up no problem at the dealership
Now that I have brought the bike home it does not seem to start.
The bike just turns over and over and so on
I tried bump starting the bike and it fires right up and runs great shut it off for a few mins and try to re start , it does not start again just cranks over and over
I put a full charge on the battery with the dealer required charger and still nothing .
Curious if anyone else has experienced this with the new 18 electric start Honda's or if there are any tricks that I am missing ? Thanks

Are you pulling in the clutch lever when you hit the starter button? I don't have a 2018, but I believe you're supposed to pull in the clutch to start, even if it's in neutral.

Yeah clutch all the way in. If you don't pull it in and press the button nothing happens.
Still with the clutch in and hit the button it will just crank over and no fire

Are you pulling the yellow starter knob / choke?

Know bad batteries right from the factory. Don't waste time....Replace it with a good after market LI battery and be done with it. Remember that the battery in the bike is at least a year old with out any activity. The dealer may warranty it, but even then it will not last very long. Get a better one and be done with it for 3-4 years.

I've tried with the yellow knob in and out. I gave it a slight crack of the throttle just to see if that helped . Read over the manual for starting and tried what the manual recommend byopening the throttle to discharge excessive fuel but even that didn't make a difference.
The motor seems to turn over quickly with the battery but it just doesn't start up could that still be a battery issue?

Do a load test on the battery. If the voltage drops below 12 volts during cranking, it will not power the fuel pump.

If all the above doesn't work, unplug the kill switch..if they pressure washed it, they might have gotten water in it, which shorts the kill switch and will keep it from running. Yes this is a thing...the kill switch design Honda uses these days is garbage

Just an FYI these bikes are notorious for having the stock clutch baskets break... Honda released a recall on them and it may be something you want to check with your dealer to ensure this bike has the revised basket in it... also I second a weak battery...

I have a 2018 crf250r 14 hours total on bike. Raced it last month washed and parked it. Went out a week later wouldn’t start just cranked over. Didn’t have time to mess with it. Went back out a few days ago and still just cranked over until the battery finally died from trying to start it. I read the fuel pump thing above about battery. How ever I can smell fuel when cranking over. Has rekluse clutch so wasn’t able to bump start. Could it be the valves out of spec? Almost how it seems? Any help would be appreciated!!!

I'm having the exact same issue with my 2018 CRF250r. Except mine started perfectly fine the first several rides. Then recently it just would not turn over. I drained the battery trying to start it. So I charged the battery, changed the air filter, changed the spark plug. Battery was testing at almost 13 volts. Still nothing. Bringing mine in to the dealer tomorrow. I barely have any real hard riding hours on the bike and its ridiculous that such an expensive machine simply won't start now

Before you go to dealer i'd follow the kill switch to the connector and unplug it, see if that works. A lot of people are getting water in the kill switch when washing and cause it to short out.
