I'm about to change the oil in my 2017 YZ 250F shock - the service manual calls for 139.5 psi of nitrogen, but I noticed that Race Tech specs 165 on their website.

Seems weird it is so much different. I'm keeping stock valving, I'm thinking I should stick with the stock rate but I have to wonder if the 165 might have some sort of advantage? Or if that's specifically meant to work with a Gold Valve.

I’m pretty sure racetech’s pressure is recommended for their valving setup... the whole point of the nitrogen in a shock is to stop foaming of the oil which in turn creates cavitation and shock fade... less pressure will definitely create a softer action shock (however, the lower the pressure the easier it is for the oil to foam and effect dampening negativily) and more will create a harsher/ faster shock... personally, if you liked the way the original shock felt I would stick with the stock 140 PSI or somewhere close too it...

We have backed up to 150 PSI on a lot of our RaceTech builds, which we love their products. Had several riders complain 165 had to much of a springy feeling!
135 is a common number from other builders and stock stuff!

There is usually a range of minimum to max PSI listed in repair manual and I always matched with the riders weight but not over the maximum.

Thanks guys - I'm going to double check the manual and then roll with that!
