What's the hot setup for the new ktms? Looking to keep the low end and midrange punch but help out the top end pull, bike really seems to go flat quickly. Read good reviews on the pc works/r304 combo, seems as though it'll help with what I want and will most likely end up with that, but curious about the other options out there, fmf, bud/hgs (love the factory look of their carbon silencers). Tried finding the info but haven't found much as far as reviews go from real world riders. Pic of my bike for your time thanks.

Not sure if it'll be of any help but I had a 14 sx 250 and tried several pipes and found the fmf fatty with powercore 2 silencer the best. Gave a good strong pull everywhere and added good over rev. The pro circuit/304 silencer combo was good too, the r304 silencer added too much bottom end snap for me, would be good for short ax type tracks. both of my pro circuit silencers broke at the weld which is why I ended up going fmf, I sold the bike with the fmf fitted. I also used the ktm factory set up which is made by doma, while it was good I didn't find it quite as good as the fmf combo.

I have a 2017 Ktm 250sx with 24hrs of seat time on it. I installed the Pro Circuit works pipe/R304 combo and it was a noticeable improvement. Bottom to mid stayed the same but the top end was much better. I was actually surprised at the gains just from this combo.

Other worth while mods:

JD Jet Kit (big difference. Lowered pilot jet to 32.5, Installed tapered needle, and dropped main jet to 430.)
Turn power valve adjuster outward ¾ of turn
I cut race gas 50/50 with premium pump gas and run maxima 927 oil at 40:1

Just purchased new 49 tooth sprocket. Looking to make 2nd gear rev out a bit longer to get me through some sections of the track.

Forgot to mention the most important mod i have done is installing the red power valve spring that comes with your bike. This alone could save you some $$$ and get the power you are looking for. Good luck.

Thank you, that's the response I was hoping to hear. Have you played with flywheel weight or know anyone who has? Had good luck with my yz in the past curious if it would help as much with the ktm with it already having a bit more rotating mass (counter balancer). I don't like experimenting with things that cost extra money without some type of review.

I have used 9 oz flywheel weight before on my YZ 250 with good results. Honestly unless you feel the bike is to much of a handful when the power comes on I would just use the power valve springs supplied as well as the square screw adjuster on the power valve to dial in the power delivery you want. I personally installed the red spring to get the power valve to open up sooner (must do in my opinion) in conjunction with backing the power valve spring outward in ¼ turn adjustments to help broaden the power band out. I ended up ¾ turn out from stock on the this adjustment.

Definitely not much of a handful, coming off a 450 I borderline feel like the bike is slow, it's really easy to ride compared to older 2 strokes I've had. Thanks for the advice though gonna try it out! Also started out with a 49t never rode with stock gearing

Hey Lemay, I"ll throw in my review of my current exhaust setup. I put about 5 hours on the bike with the stock system and I have 5 hours on it now with just a pc 304 silencer - the longer version. The 304 is a big improvement in the top end overrev. It probably pulls hard for an extra 1-2 seconds before signing off compared to the stock silencer. I haven't noticed any change in bottom end. I'm very happy with this simple mod. Been running the yellow spring 1-1 1/2 turns in from fully out, will try the red spring soon.

Anyone who can share some thoughts about pc works/304 combo (longer version) i am looking for a bit more top end for my 18 250sx.

longer 304 worked wonders for me, significant difference in over-rev, i had it mated to stock pipe.

PC pipe and 304 silencer makes a huge difference on these bikes.

I had both
FMF definitely had more bottom end, meatier down low
I have the pro circuit now definitely softer on the bottom but more over rev
Once I got used to the softer bottom on the pro circuit I actually liked it better

I ran FMF Fatty/stock silencer and FMF fatty with a Turbinecore on my 17 250SX. I would agree that the power felt meaty, but turbinecore definitely has more of a bark/abrupt feel down low, out of this combo. The turbinecore is also louder.

I wouldn't mind a little extra topend, but adjusting the gearing taller definitely gives the power a longer feel. 14/48 is my preference. At a 150lb, second gear starts are killer with a late shift to third and a looong pull!

I bought a long R304 silencer, but couldn't get it to fit with my FMF fatty. Interested in this thread for the feedback on the PC works/platinum. I can see why people like the longer power from the pro circuit with the short stock/near stock gearing.
