I'm riding a 2017 CRF450R. I have approximately 90 hours on the bike and haven't had any issues. That was until last weekend.

All morning the bike ran great. As intermission took place, the track received a good amount of rain. The rain stopped during the middle of intermission in time to soak into the track a little and dry up. I topped the bike off with fuel and headed out onto the track. Was half a lap in when the bike decided to bog down. I shift down from 3rd to 2nd, then 2nd to 1st. The bike then continued to bog out. After this point in time the bike would not start again.

The bike did no seize and appears to have compression. When the bike is kicked, the kill switch displays an orange light.
I removed the air filter and added a little starting fluid and the bike seemed like it wanted to start but didn't. I have since then removed the fuel pump, cleaned the fuel filter, and bench tested the pump itself. The fuel pump was just put back into the bike. No further actions were taken yet.

Any other suggestions or recommendations?

Fuel pump/filter issue, but also check your cam chain and valve clearances.

Stator or regulator/rectifier can cause this too. Id imagine its easy for water to mess one of them up. Thought id mention it since its not an easy diag.

I agree with leak down test first. Friends KX450 just stopped running and he just knew it was electrical, but when we torn it down it had a crack across the top of the piston. At 90 hours it's probably a good idea anyway.

I just had a kill switch fail on me last week and did the same exact thing. I landed off of a jump, it bogged out and just died. Wouldn’t start. I though it blew up. Turned out to be a bad kill switch.

Just a little update.

Fuel pump was removed from the tank and disassembled. Fuel filter was dirty. The fuel filter is on back order everywhere I have looked. I cleaned the filter and reassembled to see if this was the issue. Replaced the fuel pump with fresh O-rings. Added fresh gas, and the bike fired up and ran..

It ran for about three days of riding.

day 4 of riding, the track was wet, standing puddles in some sections again. Got two laps in and the bike bogged down and died once agian. After letting the bike sit on the stand for 30 minutes, it started again and idled for about 2 minutes before it faded out and died again.

I've got a new kill switch ordered and on its way to the house.
I have been trying to hunt down a fuel filter for the bike but as I mentioned above, the appear to be sold out and the back order date keeps getting pushed farther and farther back.

I've tried doing some digging to see if the 2016 crf450r fuel filter is the same. The "fuel filter kits" have different part numbers. But I'm curious if this is because the filter is different or maybe an O-ring changed.

Could be the fuel filter. Had the same problem with a CRF250R. Filter was all grey / black inside.

Fuel filter kit: 2017 CRF450R = 06160-MKE-A00 - 2016 CRF450R = 06160-MEN-A50.

But I believe the filter is the same. The kits come with diffrent o-rings and 2017 kit comes with a dust seal.

Filter only:

HONDA 2011-2017 CRF250R 2011-2016 CRF450R REPLACEMENT FUEL FILTER 06160-MEN-A50

I’d feel like it has to do more with water and electrical then fuel filter. Might be a coincidence that it drys out at the same time your working on the fuel tank.

I’d disconnect the kill switch, dry all electric connections and put waterproof grease on them.

A guy local to me had his 17 450 and 18 250 both quit running out of nowhere.

It turned out that some wires inside the loom of the starter wires broke and neither bike would run.

Any update on this? Having similar issues.
Check kill switch, water gets in I always cover mine up when washing now just to be safe. It would sit and click my kill switch and mess with it and it would start back up, if you jiggled the bike or flicked the off switch shut back off replaced, kill switch harness and went back to normal

Check stator and wires around stator.

Hello I have a 2018 crf450r and I did a nose wheelie and when I came down the bike had bogged out and died it does have compression and had recently adjusted my valves I pulled off the gas tank and checked fuel filter and was not dirty when I try and start the bike it idles but as soon as I twist the throttle the fuel injector stops and the bike dies and it will only run for about 6 seconds and bogs out what do you think it could be?
