Have a friend that bought a 2016 yz250 and after about 6-8 hours looks like the piston snagged the power valve. Anyone have this issue at all or known if this is a common issue with this year model?
Wouldnt say its common. The yzs are pretty solid bikes and have been for a long time. Almost seems like the piston/cyl clearance was too much and caused the piston to rock and snag the corner - just my guess
The top of the piston shows pre-ignition pit marks. This will cause the piston to deform and can cause engine failure.
The squish needs to be checked and corrected prior to a rebuild. Also check power valve clearance.
