I can get a low hour 2016 125sx with AER 48's at a good price. How much different is this bike going to be to a 2018?

My wallet wants to go for it, but I wanted to ask you guys your thoughts.

Thanks man, I also heard the Keihn is easier to jet. I just hope the AER's work as well in the 16 as the 18 as I know they tweaked the spring rate a little when they changed from 4CS to AER.

lots of AER info, may people love them. They should work just as well on either since it is the same bike and better the the 4cs without a doubt. The Keihin is easier to live with comparatively, seems to be the go to carb for most, less time tuning.

There were some transmission issues that year. Tranny was beefed up in 2018.

2016 has a better carb. It also has steel engine mounts which I prefer over the 17 and 18 aluminum mounts feel too ridiged.

How many hours and how much do you save between the 2?

Has about 50 hours and costs just over half the 2018, so quite a saving there.

Go for it! For around $3500 I'd say it's worth it if it's not hammered.

You need to check your frame these bikes (KTM and Husky) have a frame issue and crack by the upper frame mount. I attached some pictures from another forum of what is happening.

I had an engine mount crack. I just welded it and no problems since.

I have some more questions. The bike is obviously not stock. The forks are air, I presume they are AER 48 - although the outer tubing is black and not silver? Also been browsing the forum and people are saying there should be 3 lines at the top of the fork to line up to your triple clamps, these forks only have two lines. I am confused.

Anyone know what's going on with these forks? They are at 125PSI and the inserts look like AER48's (with black outer's), could they be the cone valve version? If so - how could I tell without opening them up?

Also trying to identify the pipe, it has no branding besides "KTM Racing". Anyone know what it is? It isn't stock:

Lastly the barrel does not display the cm2 and only marking is a number and the branding 'Elko' - is this a standard barrel? Sorry this is my first KTM, I am coming from a YZ125.

First ride I noticed much more engine vibration than the YZ, perhaps due to the steel frame?

I also hated the forks but they are not yet setup so I'll report back once they are.

Pipe is probably a KTM powerparts pipe. Essentially an FMF pipe but branded to be part of KTMs accessory catalog (similar to GYTR).

Elko is an Austrian company who casts a lot of the OEM KTM cylinders and heads. It appears to be a stock cylinder.

Check you engine mounting points (bolts, head stays, swingarm pivot, etc.) and make sure they're torqued to spec. If that bike is a 16, its obvious the motor has been out at some point to get the frame painted orange (OEM color was black).

Thanks, that sorts out the exhaust and barrel. Now just the fork mystery remains. Yep, the frame was powder coated. As far as the vibration, there are no rubber spacers on any of the engine mounting points. Not sure if there should be any.

the fork could have been re-anodised, people do that. I don't have the AER anymore or I would look for you. I wouldn't sweat the 3 lines thing anyway. No rubber spacers.

The fork tubes look like WP just different color and the lugs are also painted/ano. Can you take photos of the top cap?

2 or 3 lines up is fine, try sag about 104-106.

The engine shouldn't have any rubber spacers. Just make sure all the engine, headstay and swingarm bolts are tight to the OEM torque spec.

If the vibration doesn't go away, I'd check the crank play when you do the next top end.

Thanks guys, although if it was the WP AER that was just anodized, it should have three lines at the top of the forks and not two right?

I'll get some photos taken.
