Did this bike have 10 hours since new? Anyway, that sucks man, gutted for you.

Sucks to see this. Average folks can't afford a $2K rebuild on a moments notice. These types of things are what is forcing people out of the sport.

My advice is to bite the bullet and repair the motor. Buy parts over time to help reduce the pain.

You are unlucky in the fact that most engine failures are not this bad and it is uncommon to see a piston break after 10 hours from rebuild.

Rebuild the motor. Will probably cost more for an af conversion. This time use a wiseco piston. Forged is stronger than cast.

i dont know if the piston is the blame, normally when you see a rod bend like that its because a piston c clip fell out and the piston pin caught the bottom of the cylinder as it worked it way out

If it was mine, I'd find a used cylinder on eBay and buy a rod kit, piston and the stainless steel valves and springs. You're going to need valve guides too, the seats re-cut and maybe decked depending on damage. No way of avoiding spending on the parts, but you could do the work yourself (with the exception of the crank) to save on labour costs and you might enjoy the experience of learning how to do it. Don't forget to replace the cam chain too.
