Scenario's...

When bike sits for more than a couple of weeks, it's a 50/50 whether it will start. When it does start from being cold and sitting, it will fire off in a couple of kicks. If it doesn't fire in a couple kicks, then it won't start, and slight smell of gas. Then when I bump start it, it fires off immediately. Then the rest of the day it start's first kick, runs like a champ.

If I start it every few day's, there's no issues. This would be the easy fix I guess, just not always around.

The 50/50 ratio whether it start's or not is very frustrating, cause then I don't even know if I'm taking it out.

Always run VPR, or T-4 race gas. Has Vortex ignition, FMF pipe, ported head, and a fly wheel weight.

Capacitor, fuel injector, Vortex setting (rich maybe) what's your thoughts?

Thanks for any help!

Valves are good, new fuel as well. Oil changes every 2 hours, new filter every ride.

I'm fairly anal with maintenanceWink

My 250 does the same thing. Ive had it to the dealer for the valves and they are in spec. Bike runs perfect but starts terribly. Im thinking it needs the top end redone Sad

I will say, if I give it a "bitch kick" it has a much better chance of starting than if I give it the hard abrupt CR500 kick.

Try cleaning the fuel injector.

I use this.

I use race gas 100% of the time, although using a filter could help as well.

These intermittent problems are never easy to chase down.

Guess it's time I start using my 17 as my primary bike, and start going through the 13 Wink

Thanks everyone for your input. I'll keep you posted with what I find.

Do you still have the stock ECM so you could throw it on temporarily to eliminate the Vortex as a prob?

It seems that when the fuel is getting stuck in the ducts, so the bike will have been too much in the start, the fuel pump does not seem to be sealing the fuel line when the bike is stopped

Again, a dirty fuel injector will allow the fuel to leak when the engine is stopped. This can happen every time or at random. On the earliest Honda fuel injection systems this was a big problem. The injector can also go bad and leak.
May I suggest a fuel sock for your fuel tank. You may want to pull the fuel pump and filter and take a look at it.
