Have the chance to possibly get my hands on a 2013 yz250f for a nice price of 500 bucks. The guy was a dune rider so the bike isn't in the greatest shape but he just bought a new oem cylinder and piston. My question to you guys is are those bikes worth keeping for a practice day rider. I know they are slow but I thought about throwing a 270 kit and a few other mods to up the horsepower but keep the reliability that those bikes were well-known for. I would go through and rebuild the whole motor and suspension and replace all chassis bearings so I know it's completely fresh. The only worry for me with the bike is that I will put all this money in to a bike only to find that it is still much slower than a stock new-gen yz250f. What is your guys' opinion between just flipping the bike or keeping it to compliment my two strokes?

That bike is a good flip. You can still sell it for over $3,000 in my area. You basically have $2500 to play with and still come out ahead if you wanted to make it yours. With the new piston and cylinder youre going to spend less than $1000 on the motor. Put new tires and sprockets on. Do the brakes and youre no more than $2000 invested into the whole thing.

By that time you might as well keep it. A fresh 2013 that you know in and out is way better than a 16 thats you know nothing about.

Would it be worth it to put mod parts on such as the 270 kit and reliable mods such as the Moto Tassinari Boot and Hot Cams to at least make it comparable to modern stock 250f's?

I would be all over that for $500. My buddy has an 11, and other than being slow by today's standards, and the occasional bog on g outs, it's a great bike. Very good handling and awesome suspension. Very easy to ride. My buddy is also planning on doing a big bore this winter to bump up the power.

Also, the Boyesen accelerator pump mod really fixed the bog in all but the most extreme situations.

I had a 2011 in 2013 and I liked it. I owned a 2014 crf250 last year and thought it handled great but the suspension wasn't as good at the yamaha. I have been riding a 2004 cr250 and am building a cr144 ripper at the moment so I would like a 250f again. I don't race much these days just a practice day warrior but would still like a bike that is exciting and fun to ride.

He just bumped it up to 800 on me because he bought the cylinder and piston haha tried to get him to do 500 without the piston and cylinder since I'll be doing the cylinder works kit but we will see.
