some of the threads for my shroud plastic on my gas tank are stripped. I do not think there is enough material there to tap them. any ideas on what I could do.

The easiest is to get that permatex thread restorer (not sure of the exact name or brand). But you basically just put it on the bolt and try to keep it straight in the hole. Clean whatever get forced out and let it cure. Or just look on eBay for a new tank.
