Got a 2005 YZ125 with some frame tarnish around the pegs and Y, and have not been able to clean it up yet.

So far, I've tried many times with scotchbrite. I've probably washed the bike ten times since framing it, and each time, I hit those areas again and again with the scotchbrite/pot scouring pads.

Most of the cases and frame have cleaned up pretty nicely, but there are a few dark spots where the aluminum is a darker grey than everywhere else.

Any suggestions?

Eagle 1 mag wheel cleaner will get a lot of that dark stuff. I usually use a paint brush in the tight spots.

Cameron Niemela has a FANTASTIC youtube channel that has a ton of aluminum cleaning tutorials. He basically walks through it and the results are reallly good

Mother’s is a good product as well. You can use a wire wheel or use just a rag and elbow grease and it will come out nice, but not shiny if you know what I mean.

Do I need to be concerned about etching of the plated parts near the aluminum? I'm thinking about the mag wheel cleaner stripping the nickel/chrome coating off my pipe, if I spill some off the Y, by accident.

Also, the footpeg pins and springs are all plated, and I need to cleanup the frame in that area too.

Id take anything off you dont want it to get onto.

Ive never had an issue with it on my motor(gaskets included), any plastic or rubber.

Never gotten any on anodizing or plated parts. So idk what happens. Id assume it would mess up the finish.

Read the label carefully. I know Meguiars has three different levels of wheel cleaners with three different strengths and intended uses.
