I have a 2004 rm250 I just did a rebuild on with new crank and piston. It has not ran right since we had it. Was thinking it needed a rebuild. I am having problem with low to mid throttle. It is acting like it is running really rich but I have went all the way down to a 38 pilot in it. It just blubbers until I give it a little more and it will clean out. But still sometimes when it cleans out on top it will kinda act like it’s cutting out. Have checked power valve, float in carb, unplugged the kill switch, the ground on the coil, all vent lines, played with lots of different jetting and air screw settings, advanced and retarded the timing. I am leaning towards maybe a bad cdi box or stator? Any ideas?

Forgot to put that in there. I checked those and seem to be good! No cracks anywhere and looks to have good contact all the way around the petals

Does it start well and then act up after it gets hot...a low speed coil can feel like this.

Starts up just fine. Maybe 2-3 kicks with choke on cold. 1-2 kicks no choke hot. It idles just fine. Doesn’t matter if it’s cold or hot it will act up either way. Power valve is installed correctly and clean. Just had the covers off it tonight checking it again. All working like it should

I swapped carbs, coil and stator with a perfect running bike and still the same result. Is there something in the motor beside power valve that could cause this? I’m out of options?

Are you 100% sure the power valve is adjusted correctly?

Maybe you cut or nicked the right side main seal and you are sucking oil or running lean. I had a main seal back out and I got loading up and running lean depending on the attitude of the bike.

A failing CDI box would cause all that. Unless I missed it sounds like you haven't tried that. Carb, coil and stator swapped leaves CDI. Sounds like you may have a donor bike to borrow parts for testing. Very lucky if you do. Disregard if you've already tried this. Just trying to help of i can

I did switch cdi box with same result. I think my next step is I’m going to swap my motor into the running bike so I can rule out something wrong in the motor.

Had a friend with a '95 CR125 fresh from shop with new too end. Ran poor and after trying everything eventually found piston installed backwards. True story
