So I picked up a 04 CR125 in the spring for my first bike, over the winter I plan on doing a restore/ rebuild on it since the shock and forks leaks, rear wheel is bent and other various issues.I will most likely be sending the suspension of to get revalved. Bike is also 70/30 trail/track time. Anyways..so I think I'm going to swap in some 47mm TC showas from a 250, is there any benefit to changing out the shock as well to something different? Also what year forks will fit my bike?

The 04 stuff can tune pretty well. Some of the best oc forks that were made. Some sub tanks and good valving can make the bike pretty good.

I’m running 47mm tc showas, stock Kyb shock valved/sprung by FC on my 02 cr125. Works really good.

The stock suspension on the 2002-2004 was actually valved really well. Most suspension shops in the NW at the time would just recommend proper springs, adjusting oil height per rider preference, setting sag, set clickers and go. The Showa TC in theory is a more advanced fork, but swapping onto the CR125 adds a lil weight......not much, but will also require more tuning, valving, and springs to work better than the stock stuff. Just my .02.

I agree the stock stuff is pretty good for stock. I was only considering swapping to the showa TC forks until factory connection convinced me that they would be a better choice vs the stock kyb forks. I found my showa forks on eBay for 180$ shipped from a 03 CRF450 parts bike.
