Hey all new here smile So ive had a 2002 honda xr80 for the better part of 10 years and just wothin the last couple months decided to get it back up and running. So the issue is basically it wont idle. I bought a brand new carb from amazon for like $30 the bike starts up perfectly, ran it around the block and its great but as soon as you release the throttle it dies. Like I said I completely change the old carb with a brand new one. Changed the air filter, and got a new spark plug, still dies. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks

$30=cheap chinese carb. I've never had any luck making those things work. Clean the OEM carb and put it back on.

This. Clean the original carb, and replace it’s jets with original new OEM, and also replace the float valve, if equipped. The rubber seals on these can degrade over time, so while you are in there I’d do that along with a new bowl gasket. Good luck with the tune up.

Just repaired a 2002 xr80 for a friend. It was also running like a pile after cleaning the Chinese carb.
I went back to the stock airfilter, checked the valve clearances, nothing would make it run consistent which is really critical for someone that's learning clutch technique.
I now have a clean stock carb ready to bolt up. Sorry that I don't have a ride report just yet.
