I was riding my 02cr250 yesterday out at Carnegie OHV an was going up a hill climb nothing crazy quads go up em an about half way up the bike started bogging I got to the top revel it up a couple times then it died. Went to kick it the bike had very little compression. Here is the kicker I completely rebuilt the bike from the frame up new motor crank up everything you can think of I replaced or rebuilt 2 years ago an Friday would have been my 3rd time riding it from the rebuild. Now I had the motor professionally built but a guy Who is well known here in nor cal in the motocross world, I just don’t get it an I’m pretty frustrated at this point after all the money I spent on this bike. Fuel was drained last time riding it from tank an carb, air filter cleaned every ride I’m just at a loss for words. Any suggestions as to what may have happened would be greatly appreciated. Side note motor never locked up just lost all compression

Sucked dirt? Do you still have the crappy stock 2002 airboot-airbox setup?

Well if it lost all compression then the top end went. The last bike I saw that lost all compression smoked a hole in the piston from running lean. A couple things to check would be air leaks from crank seals, air boot area etc. Next, I would look at the jetting. Also too, you say a motor guy built the motor. Did he do any port or head work? If so, you could be running the wrong fuel causing the bike to get hot.

As others said, you probably had a piston/ring failure. If your motor builder put in an aftermarket piston, they require more warm-up time than the OEM Honda pistons. I know this because the same thing happened to my son's 125 while he was dicing for the lead at an AHRMA event at Red Bud a few years ago. Piston had a chunk out of it, ring was trashed. Motor had about 2 hours on it, but he was pushing it hard in that deep Red Bud dirt. Ka-boom.
