I’ve picked up a used dep pipe for my RM, it’s got a fair amount of surface rust on it

I’ve seen some videos on YouTube using scotch brite/wheels/dremel

Can I cheat and use a vapour blaster or some other sort of soft blasting to clean up the pipe??

Any tips/tricks welcome!

Vapor blast will give you a dull semi-gloss finish, but it will remove the rust.
A scotch-brite pad and some WD-40 or other light oil after blasting will have it looking great.

Evapo-rust soaked into a paper-towel or rag and draped over the rusty pipe will remove light rust if you don't want to deal with finding and sending out the pipe. It's relatively low-effort.
It will remove heavy rust, but will take days of immersion in the liquid.

Other chemical rust removers will do the same. Most are based on one kind of acid or another.
I use a product called Ospho on some steel parts, and there's also Kleen Strip brand rust remover at the hardware stores. Ospho is made from phosphoric acid. It will give you a dull gray etched surface, I wouldn't use it on a pipe.

Forget scotch Brite, use 1000 grit sandpaper with water or if you wanna go crazy get some acid wash and spray on the pipe. It will eat the rust but turns the pipe a bit yellow so you end up having to sand paper it anyway. After that get a propane torch and blue the welds.
Once that is done get a rag and some old engine oil and wipe it over the pipe,
wd 40 evaporates off and you need to keep replacing it
One track i race at waters from a salt water river, this process is a regular for me

Evaporust is LEGIT!! I picked up this rusty old Dynoport pipe and laid it in this tray of Evaporust to see how the product worked... Results speak for themselves! I ended up buying a 5gal pail of it on Amazon. Love the stuff. It's reusable and non-toxic.
