1996 KX100 - tank question

Picked up a 96 KX100 for my kid. Came with a purple tank but now looking to get a green tank if possible. I talked to Clarke Mfg. and said they only go down to a 98 so, I asked if they knew if a 98 would mount onto this 96 and they said check the forums.

Just wondering if anyone has put a 1998 tank on a 96 ? and if so what mods were needed ? Also looking for any tips on what plastics/shrouds would work with the newer tank if it did fit and..... can you fit a newer front fender and number plate onto a 96 ?

Appreciate any insight as I'm trying to make the bike all green/white plastics. (for a xmas present.)

Looking at pics on google, it appears 1998 was the first year of a restyle. The tank is shaped different than the 1996. It looks as if maybe the 1998 tank might bolt up but you'd also have to use the 1998 radiator wing. Never done this myself, just making a guestimation.

Hey Paul, would you be willing to sell that purple tank? Is it in good shape? Not that I "need" it, but I happen to have a clean 96 kx100 shroud with OEM graphics. It would be nice to have the matching tank. Lemme know please. Thanks!

Hey Ryan, not looking to part with it just yet because if plan A falls thru I will be returning it to stock colors/graphics. Keep in touch though because if something changes I would be more than happy to help you out.
