Hey guys,

I've had 6 (now 7) CRF 250's over the years ranging from 2004 up to my latest 2016. I sold my 2010 to get this nice lower hour 2016.

When I took it out for the first time the clutch was making this weird "jingle" noise whenever I pull the clutch in when its in gear. I sound like I'm riding Santa Clause's sleigh. I took the entire clutch apart only to find its absolutely perfect. The bike runs and rides perfect and the noise doesn't effect the clutch performance at all.

I'm stumped on this one. Not one of the other CRF's has done this. I attached a video so you can hear the sound. The clutch is all stock with the judder spring. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Is it the throw out bearing? They’ll make noise when going bad, and you’ll only hear it when it’s in use. Which is when the clutch lever is pulled. Over time you’ll lose material and you’ll start getting chatter from the needle bearings.

On the clutch schematic I’d replace items 1, 23, 24 and 10.

Not sure on noise but I was always told to run more oil in the clutch side i would put another 250cc of oil in it. Hinson told me to do that. See if it quiets it up if it does maybe go from there.

Thanks guys. I didn't think of the throw out bearing. I'll give that a shot since its relatively inexpensive to replace as well as getting a standard clutch plate to replace the judder spring set up. I have done that on my 2010's with good luck.

My friend recently got a 2020 Crf250 and he called Hinson and they said the same thing. The Hinson rep said to run more oil. He said the Geico teams have been doing that for years because the way the stock honda baskets are designed they don't flow enough oil through them.

Thanks for the help I'll keep you posted!

Put all the new parts in like suggested and more additional oil, still the same... Back to the drawing board. Anything else I could be missing??

If you’ve gone through all your clutch components at this point. You may need to start looking at shaft bearings and or transmission. I guess it could be some play in the drive shaft bearing or something within the transmission side of the cases.
