Just a FYI for anyone doing a TE rebuild.
I bought the complete engine kit btw.
The stock Honda metal base gasket measures at .0175.
The Tusk paper gasket was .0225 (lower compression).
Everything else with the kit was fine. Just use a OEM base gasket to not lose any snap down low. Wanted to share my observations is all.

Did you experience this loss of "snap"? I figure a paper gasket would compress the extra. 005 to give you the same height as a metal gasket after torque. I could be wrong though, wouldn't be the first time.

It's still in pcs. When I raced pro in 03 with my TZ250 the optional kit gaskets were the metal type. I had Cometic make me a batch from paper and the squish came out the same as the kit gaskets. I also sent them metal shim stock to make other sizes as well. Like tissue thin as guys like Robert Ward, Rich Oliver's wrench ABSOLUTELY HAD TO HAVE BOTH CYLINDERS EQUAL.
If you ever want to play with squish and port heights, Cometic will make you any size you want. No one sold TZ gaskets other than Yamaha. Sent them a massively thick one and they now have it in their system to make any thickness you desire.

The 05 06 07 bikes all had the thinner gasket and a straight shot air boot. Alot update their earlier RC bikes with those 2 mods. Just sharing my info. Knowledge is a good thing, especially when someone else has already been down that rd. Smile

I used a tusk paper base gasket on my yz125 and it's still seeping premix through it. I think it'll seal up eventually once the paper gets full of oil though.
