Looking into repairing this 04 cyl. on the exhaust bridge area. For those with experience in getting a cyl. repaired what is a an expected cost ? What is a recommended shop / business for this type of work ?

I'm looking to purchase the cyl. & doing my homework before purchasing it. I've been fortunate that I haven't had to do any cyl repairs so this would be a 1st for me. Any info or recommendations provided would be greatly appreciated. Thnxz..

I had a 2004 CR250 cylinder refurbished by Millenium recently. A straight re-plate (there was no damage) took about 3 weeks and was $315.86 with return shipping. I was thought the price was a little higher than I had bargained for, but the quality of the work was first class. They chamfered the ports really well and relieved the exhaust bridge correctly, which is super important on these bikes.

As you probably know, new cylinders from Honda have been on backorder forever. Partzilla lets you order for $329 delivered, but you will probably be waiting months.

+1 on Millennium. They did a great job with my 02 cylinder, and came in UNDER what they estimated (had to get a couple helicoils where the studs snapped).

There’s also a company in the UK called Langcourt which re-plates cylinders for £150, and their work is every bit as good as Millenium if not better. Even with postage, it might be worth looking into.

I've always used Powerseal. They do great work, turn around is usually a week or two. Recently sent a cylinder out to them that required welding on the exhaust port. That was about $265 with return shipping. Straight replates on cylinders are usually just over $200 with shipping. I usually send the replacement piston I plan on running in the bike with the cylinder so that they can make sure the tolerances are correct.

Millennium just did my 144 kit. Their work looks really good, Would deff use them again. They could fix that no problem.

Cylinder repairs are almost as much as a new one. If you can still get a new one. thats the way to go. Only reason to get a repair is if they dont make them anymore.

Agree. I'm selling the bike & looking for an economical route. If I buy new I'd still have to buy the powervalves ,PV rod & head. I'm pulling an 03 cyl. / head with mods & will be replacing it with this 04 cyl. + parts I bought from ebay.

If you're selling then yeah, slap some junk together and list on Craigslist as "well maintained".

You haven’t been able buy new cylinders for these bikes for quite a while. I placed an order with a Honda main dealer and ended up getting refunded because the cylinders were on backorder from Honda and the expected ‘back in stock’ date was bumped significantly to the right. I then tried Partzilla and the same thing happened, and it wasted months of my time messing about. In the end I did the above thing with Millenium.

One thing to know is the 2002-2004 cylinders are interchangeable with each other, however, if you have a 2002 cylinder you have to use the 2002 power valves which are slightly different to the 2003/4.

I have heard tons of happy stories from PowerSeal and Millenium.

Also, OP, dial cailpers is the wrong tool for measuring the ID of a cylinder.

$289 is the Repair and Replate price, it even shows it on his invoice he posted. $219 is their standard Replate pricing.

I've used US Chrome and Millenium both with no problems and quick turnaround. They both are great placed to work with.

I’m not sure why they charged to repair too as the cylinder had no gouges or cracks in it, unless they uncovered something when they stripped the plating off. I thought it was a straight re-plate.

Motosport has them. Here's Honda of Troy selling them on Ebay. Took me 30 seconds find new ones, and like I said the price is close to restored.

No reason to get restored when you can buy new for a couple bucks more.

Rockinar - I've never slapped some junk together since I wouldn't want to be that person buying it. I've always sold my bikes in good shape & disclosed any issues if there were any. Unfortunately when I was younger in my late teens I learned the hard way after buying bikes with stripped or missing bolts with engine or trans problems. No Bueno..

I emailed US chrome about a quote repair with the exhaust bridge pic in the 1st post. I was quoted $262 & was also emailed a $30 coupon by Scott Reath the owner. That's more than a reasonable price for the repair & will be sending them the cyl. once I receive it.

Wanted to pass it along for anybody looking to get a cyl repair at a reasonable price.

Slipdog - That's a fact.. Not many know if the plating is done right it will be more durable than oem.

If they actually have the cylinders in stock, then that’s great and things have changed 180 from November when I got fed up with placing orders and then being refunded because they were unavailable.

A lot of the online places are only pass through retailers and don’t actually have it in stock - they order it from Honda when you click and pay, which was the problem.

I did not catch that it was a repair and plate, not just normal plating. That makes sense. I guess relieving the bridge was the upcharge.

I received the cyl./ head & unfortunately found some additional damage the Ebay seller didn't disclose with pics.. Attached are a couple of pics of the exhaust side port that appears like part of the piston melted onto the powervalves & port area. Can I use some type of chemical to clean them or will they need to be resurfaced ? The powervalves move freely though.

The underside of the Cyl. head has some pitted areas from fragments hitting it I'm assuming. Can that be sanded & smoothed out or will it also need to be resurfaced ? I can slightly feel a little material protruding with my fingernail, but very minor. Hard to find honest people these days !
