what grip tape to run on the side of your frame?

Edited Date/Time 11/29/2015 3:27pm
I'm in the process of powder coating my rm 125 frame black. I'd like to preserve the sides where the boots run on the frame the best that I can.

I've previously tried running grip tape on sides of the frame before. It was skate board grip tape from a local skateboard store. It chewed the heck out of my boots after an hours worth of riding.

Does anyone consistently run grip tape on their frames and is there a specific type in can run that will prevent wear on sides of my frame but not chew my boots apart?

Thanks

I'm guessing if it's grips it will wear your boots. I use skate deck tape and the tape wears fast and my boots cop it. But it's cheap and works

Nihilo makes good stuff but not sure if there's one for your bike?

Skateboard grip take works well and comes in a variety of colors. Before I put it on the bike I dull it down by rubbing 2 pieces together. This will help stop wearing your boots out.

I am going to try this. Never thought of that. Dull it down with sand paper or something. Thanks for the tip!

I don't remember the brand I use to use or where I got it from but there are many companies out there making rubber grip tape. I just did a Google search and found Tech Spec as a likely good choice.

I make my own out of 3m rubber tape. I get mine from a automotive paint store in town, I buy 1 1/2' pieces and can make about 7 sets for my new yz450. It's about $25 for it but it's worth it! That stuff last twice as long as the sand paper stuff

Home depot sells some 3M non skid tape for the steps on a deck or stairs.

Works great, cheap and comes in a big roll and different widths.

Look up Vibram Frame pads. They are rubber.

No, haha! I did for a day, I was just trying some stuff to try and get rid of arm pump. I ended up getting odi controlled flex bars and it helped take care of that. Those renthal twin walls are way to stiff for me

So you would definitely recommend odi cft bars? I was looking at either the odi cft bar or the odi podium bar. I agree twin walls are super rigid. I tried them for a while but ended up going back to renthal fat bars.

I run this stuff as well. In my opinion it works great for the price. A lot less waste than skateboard tape as well.
