Get the best of both worlds - buy a twinwall and if you feel like it take the crossbar off it and boom, you got yourself a fatbar.

It is my understanding that twinwall's are the strongest bar on the market.

I bought a set of 999's for my YZ125 and love them. They are a lot more rigid than a fat/taper bar, and you can definitely feel the difference. So if you like it to be a bit more forgiving, go for the fat bar.

In fact Twinwalls are not the strongest. Regular Fatbars beat them because an impact can be dispersed over the whole side of the bar. With the Twinwalls, the crossbar creates a stress point or a fulcrum if you know your physics. On the recent DMXS podcast they had a guy on from Tucker Rocky (Pro Taper) who explained the issue very well. You actually make the Twinwall stronger by cutting the crossbar.

you don't make it stronger you just remove a stress concentration. What he meant by that is by cutting the cross bar the bars will bend rather than catastrophically fail.

Ive never bent a Set of Pro Tapers, but you never know how bad of a stack you actually had by the damage you didn't receive. I bought set of Twinwalls for my 125 and I can say they are a fair bit heavier than a set of Pro's...

Twinwalls are rigid. And I mean rigid like concrete rigid. I ran a twinwall for years (for looks) and would never do it again. I just don't see the point unless are an SX pro that wants feedback from hitting supercross obstacles.
If you must run a crossbar, get the Protaper Fuzion bars which have the ability to 'unlock' the crossbar.

My second-to-last set of Renthal Twinwall bars (yep, replaced them with another set) from what seemed like a minor spill.

Another thing to consider with twinwalls is with all these electronic gizmos they keep putting on the handlebars now, there isn't enough room on twinwalls for them to fit. On my kx450 with the launch control installed where it should be the clutch lever sticks out past the end of the grip about a 1/2". I recently wrecked and bent my twinwalls so I am replacing them with fatbars for that reason.

I use to think twinwalls were the strongest...until I bought a bike that already had fatbars on it. IMO Fatbars are by far superior to twinwalls...haven't bent any yet.

Over the years i have seen about every brand and style of bar bend. I prefer the feel of a fat bar over a twin wall
