Wanted to get some opinions on woods tires. Typically do gncc, gp, and some mx. Would like to get an all around tire that does decent in each area with good wear. Right now I am running an mx52 on my 250sx and did great in the beginning but once the knobs rounded it felt pretty mediocre.

I run Maxxis MaxxCross SI in all conditions except the most extreme mud. On 2 and 4 strokes. They wear well, and the loss of traction is much more gradual when the knobs begin to round (I've run MaxxCross SI with about 60% of the knobs left, and gotten decent traction). I also don't rip the knobs off them like I do with Michelin's or Pirellis. Another plus is if you do GNCC, Maxxis has a truck there. $65 front, $75 rear, mounted. More if you run bib mousse instead of tubes...I think it's an extra $10 per tire. Lastly, they pay decent contingency for top 3 in every class if you run Maxxis at both ends and their stickers. A classes pay $200 for 1st, B classes pay $125 for 1st, C classes pay $100 for 1st. These are the GNCC payouts.

That's good to hear since that was the main tire I was considering. I figure I will have them put one on at the powerline gncc since they have the good deals running at the races.

Yep. What class do you run?
Edit: you have to take your wheels off and bring 'em to the truck though.

Yea we had maxxis throw a front on my dads bike at john penton. They had it changed by the time we were done signing up! And sportsman B, trying to get back into it, didn't have a bike for the last 3 years due to college. Yourself?

Edit: are you from the warren by Marietta or the one further north? I actually grew up 10 min from the warren by Marietta?

Depends on the dirt. I used Michelin S12 XC for trails, moto, and offroad. Hook up well and wear decent.

I hate Michelin tires for moto (mh2) but I decided to get one for my woods bike because of the deals on them. I ride a lot of shale and sharp rocks. I have got 5 times the life out of it than I got out of my last mx52

That's good to hear considering I feel like my 52 is wearing way to fast on the back

The problem with the 52 is they start to chunk off . I want a tire that the knobs get shorter not fall off

I've love my Kenda Washoughals front and rear for a good all around tire. I'm very comfortable on them and they wear really well in my opinion. Local HS's I can go 3-4 races, at the GNCC's this year I've ran the same rear at 3 rounds even. (Open A-back of the pack)
