Hey Vital,
When I was renovating a house a couple of years ago, ALL of my moto stuff was stolen from the shed in the back of the house. I'm starting from scratch, but I have a much nicer setup now with space I can dedicate to working on my bikes. Aside from basic metric sets, what specialty hand or power tools would you want/need in your garage?

I'm starting from scratch, but I have a much nicer setup now with space I can dedicate to working on my bikes. Aside from basic metric sets, what specialty hand or power tools would you want/need in your garage?
Basic metric socket set 3/8 and 1/2
T handle 8,10,12,14
Rubber/plastic hammer
Various screwdriver
Wrenches 6-19 & "13/16"
Vice grips
Needle nose & metal snips
Measuring tape & electrical tape.
Plug gapping feelers
Air gauge
Chain breaker
Never let me down at the track.
At home:
Steering nut socket
Breaker bars
Torque wrenches Inches, medium ft, and 100+ ft
Electric & pnumatic impact gun
Die grinder
Propane torch
Bench grinder to polish
Bench vice
Regular hammer
Sledge hammer
Oddball sizes collected over the years
Tire irons
Clutch basket tool
Case splitter
Flywheel puller etc
I'm sure there's more but that's what I can remember off of the top of my head
- 1/4" and 3/8" drive torque wrenches
- JIS screwdrivers (Vessel Megadora)
- Safety wire pliers
- Tire irons/spoons
- Circlip pliers
- Sprocket Stuff tool (depending on your bike)
- Flush cutters for zip-ties (don't leave that 1/4" long razor sharp tail!)
I would also want
CNC Mill
CNC Lathe
Shop Press
Welder
Blast Cabinet
PC Oven
Good torque wrenches. Spend $500 on 3 nice ones and they will last your whole life.
Tap and dies for the 8, 10, 12 mm bolts, studs, nuts located around the bike.
A variety of crescents for stuff like a steering stem nut or carrier nut on a quad
Nice snap ring pliers - which admittedly I have a hard time obtaining!!!!
Nice needle nose - equally in demand and hard to find in my garage.
A chain breaker! Saves so much time.
I use this thing a LOT
Its great at resetting calipers, or I use it to squeeze the beads of a tire together. Just get your tire mounted, clamp it down opposite where you work and it keeps the tire off the bead while you work. Plus it's just handy for all kinds of other stuff where you might need a c-clamp...but it works much faster and you can get it tighter if need be.

I have a 1996 Hurco BMC30 sitting in my shop that i want gone. 24 tool auto changer, comes with 12 tools. 3 10" kurt vices. It is a 3 axis, no rotary table. $7500 you pull it and ship it. Runs fine, have a new Hurco coming to take its place. You will need to wire your shop for 440 but it is worth it lol
Spent my formative years in a moto machine shop. I built a chrome moly frame for my Montesa, have rolled and welded my own pipes. Machined and assembled thousands of the Ball Check Compression Releases popular in the late 60's and early 70's. I worked for the man who designed them and then I become the guy behind the scenes.
Always wished I could of stayed in that industry, however the draft in 1973 changed my world.....
See ya Sunday?
