Hey everyone, I just got a 2012 YZ 450F and I'm switching from a 13 YZ 250F, any tips on making the switch a bit easier?

Dont be a wuss & concentrate hard on rolling the throttle and not whacking it open. 450s are still gentle giants compared to 250 2 strokes. its really not a massive change what you are doing. concentrate on being smooth and dont try to hard its a 450 not a 125 it will spit you out.

yup definitly have to roll the throttle. i found the 450 easier to ride than the 250f because of all the low end power.. never really need to be top RPMs on the 450. you'll have to get used to the weight and handling. but im sure you will like it!

Don't have to be as aggressive on the throttle/clutch. I made the opposite switch and found I needed to rev more and clutch more ( when needed ). The yz450 of that model was a tank and is lively when you initially crack the throttle. Consider a sprocket change to help get the revs up a bit and smooth out the throttle response. Other than that, be committed to the turns and get right over the front. Enjoy high speed stability......

Rock solid bike though, got well into 130+ hour range with oil changes and valve check.

Just click it into 3rd gear and ride. Way easier than a 250

So what about jumping? As a bigger rider I have had a couple of issues with some jumps that I could not clear. How would a 450 react to the jumps?

It's easier. I am 230 lbs and the 450 low end power makes it so easy to clear stuff. Just give it some gas and you're gonna clear it.

Not aure if u have videos of u riding the 250. But when u compare the two its crazy becuase the 450 rpms are so low but you are going just as fast and clearing everything.
