We are looking to build a supermini later this year and I wanted to get some opinions and experiences from people who have been down this road. Due to dealer support we will most likely stay on Kawasaki’s. The only brand I would consider switching to would be KTM.

2015 KX 100:
1). Bore only or Bore and Stroke – advantages/disadvantages>>
2). Crank Issues – Does the extra power cause premature wear/failure on KX cranks?
3). Extra Maintenance? I typically rebuild the bike every 12-15 hours with Vertex Pistons.
4). 109 or 112?

I have heard good things about the Supermini builders below:
1). Lynk’s
2). JMS Performance
3). TDC 2-stroke
4). Varner – Current builder no disappointment so far.

Opinions? Experiences with your builds?

Thanks!

I worked as a mechanic for a local kid who raced superminis. He had them done at pro circuit and they were pretty reliable. I want to say we stretched the 20 hour mark on the top ends. We had the 112, bore and stroke and it worked very well. I remember riding it across the field thinking that it would have beat my CR125. There is also a local Engine builder we all use around here Named Tim Slater. He builds all types of motors and he Dyno tunes a lot of bikes as well. Look up X-PRO motocross on Google, they are out of Andover, CT! I believe he took the motor apart for us and then sent everything to pro circuit. Hope whichever way you go works out well for you!

I had a yz112 built by Tom Morgan and I have to say that was the best bike I have ever had built. He had everything spec'd out in a book that explained what would happen if you changed from A to B.

Surf and Turf Racing, STR. Steve's 112 is awesome. We had a pro circuit 109 which was good but more of a rever. Put Steves big carb on the 112 and it stays cool and reliable. He builds great motors for any 2 stroke. Does his own crank building in house.

A lot of builders haven't hit 30hp with a supermini, TDC 2 Stroke is knocking on the door of 30hp with their 85's. Yamaha and KTM's.
