Has anyone Done this mod?

I am looking for the tool they use in the video at 4.30 mins.

Any idea what the hex size is needed to open the cartridge. ...I was thinking I could make something from a coupling nut.

I am hearing 21mm, so there is a chance a M14 coupling nut might work.

I'm not sure off the top of my head, but I think it's a 19mm. I use my Motion Pro axle tool when I take them apart and it works like a champ.

Brian, i take it you are comfortable pushing the piston/ damper rod through the cartridge seal, rather than using a bullet in the video???

I am sure the majority of the performance advantages of this kit come from the air piston and not the cartridge seals. ???

It's interesting how they use a pipe cutter to cracked the peens, I drilled them when replacing cartridge seals in the past

Never 100% comfortable, but I use lost of slick honey grease and go nice and easy with no force. Have not had any problems yet, but I do keep an extra set of all the seals just in case.

Brian, have done any of these tac glide kits?? I've done the cart seals on the old twin spring showas and I used a 17mm

I've seen the kits, but not installed one. My go to right now to pack all 5 seals with the Slick Honey and then I use Torco RSF light shock fluid since it is light viscosity with a very VI. The reduction in stiction over the stock fluid is massive with that combination.

That's really interesting. I used that grease too and it made quite a difference. I was thinking of adding some ptfe additive to the fluid also.

Some one in the air fork thread said it's the same tool(22mm) as Kawasaki-Rider linked above. Guess I was wrong and need to pay more attention, lol

I Dlc coated the inner legs on my sff fork, and that made a HUGE difference in "stickiness" even when you just apply pressure standing still. Definitely worth the money.

Will probably install this kit on next service for my fork, if I'm not going the öhlins/cone valve way, kind of tired in the constant check of pressures.

At least my fork, it's really important the pressures are exactly correct, otherwise it gets choppy and harsh directly. if I leave this fork on, I will get an nitrogen bottle to use for the fork air.

It's simple, just take the whole thing out and put the lower jam nut and bottom bolt on. You will then turn two 17mm wrenches against each other

On the video they use a plastic seal bullet to protect the seal from the threads, I use pvc electrical tape

This is the tool I used to drill out the nut....it's a cool little tool that I use to take the peeens of showa shock shafts without taking too much metal away

Just ordered the kit from ridejbi.com .

JB said it's not worth swapping out the cartridge seal on the damper side .... it's because the skm seals are double lipped, but oem only uses a single lip seal on the damper so using the skf on the damper can actually add a little stiction.

To be honest, I was skipping that side anyway since I am lazy

The plastic piston insert is too long so the nut won't wind all the way down. See the paper wedged in the gap...

This is just me, but I'd send it back for a refund if it doesn't fit properly and I also wouldn't assume responsibility for installing it.

I believe the folks at PC won't even sell it to consumers outright. I'm pretty sure they are the only ones to install it. They also have a version of this that may be different than what you just bought.

It's just a smidgen off, so when you actually sinch down the cap nut, it seems to tighten fine. Maybe that's how they design it, should be fine.

It's going back together tomorrow.

Is this on a -16 kxf 450? Because it doesn't fit these, my suspension guy tells me there are new parts for this bike coming soon.
