My ktm 250 exc 2t from 12' is having problems when I try to shift from 2nd to 3rd. Bike will shift any gear in any circunstances but from 2 to 3, even with the cluth fully pressed, it wont shift until I let the RPM's fall. So I have been doing some research in the internet I it seems like thisi is my problem:

now my question is. I have never split the cases. I am good at working in my bikes, but I never had to open any cases (furthest I went was removing completelly the clutch), so I want to know is if I can remove the part that I need to repair (the one shown in the video, I think it is calle shift drum in english??) Without opening the cases. Does it just slides out? If I need to split the cases I will take it to the shop I do not have the time to open them during the week, and I have a race in two weeks, I dont want to waste the next weekend working in the bike instead of training.

Thanks Cool

You will need to split the cases to change the shifting drum.

I have been searching a little bit and actually I only have to remove the thing that actuates the drum, if I am not mistakin it es the same part that crosses the cases to the shifting pedal. If that is the case I think I only have to remove the shifting pedal and slide it out..... I hope it is like this...

anyways thanks

You just have to remove the inner clutch cover and the complete clutch. After that, just remove the shift lever and slide the shaft out. make sure you have a Cometic inner clutch cover gasket on hand or the updated KTM gasket. The updated KTM gasket is part number: 54830024100.

You stated you were needing to remove the shifting drum. To do that you have to split the cases. If it's just the shifting shaft and mechanicals, then no need to split the cases, but you will have to remove the clutch.
So which are you needing to remove?

Sorry, english is not my first language so maybe I didnt explain myself correctly, i think it is the shaft, it is the piece where the spring goes. I need to repair that piece

Ok, then drain the water and oil.... Pull the kick start lever off...Pull the clutch side engine cover off...
Pull the clutch out...Remove the shifter lever...Pull the shift arm out.

Yup, good news is if you want to do that fix then all you need to do is pull the right side outer cover and clutch basket.
