Just picked up a 2009 RMZ 450 from craiglist as a project. Bike is not getting fuel to the motor, so far i have bench tested the fuel injector and fuel pump (both work as they should) I have tested the plugs that hook to both for power also and as far as I can tell I'm not getting anything to the injector. Bike has good spark and compression, engine is in time (according to the timing marks on the stock cams). so what's left??? ECM? Tip over sensor? Crank sensor? really want avoid throwing money at it and going in circles. anyone have an experience with this? HELP!!!

Start by checking the kill switch. You should have power to the fuel pump and the injector while kicking it over. If not the kill switch could be bad.

Go through and check all your electrical connections for rust, dirt, water etc. It should be just one plug that is bad, but could be more. Take them, clean them and then use an electrical grease on them.

There is a plug with two wires under the number plate. You can hook up a 12v battery and see if that helps diagnose the problem

How did you check for power to the injector? And how much fuel does your fuel pump pump out when you kick it over? You may have power to your fuel pump but is it enough power. I ask these questions because I had the same problem with my bike.

Testing power at the plugs using an OHM Meter I have 12+ volts at the fuel pump plug while the bike is being kicked over, I have 0 at the injector plug. Just to verify my findings I pulled the tank and put 12 volts directly to the fuel pump and it works. Also I have pressure in the fuel line when I unhook it. Next I bench tested the injector the same way using a can of carb cleaner and the battery and it works fine. So I reassembled the bike minus the sub-frame, kicking the bike over and still have no spray from the injector. So far I have checked the crank sensor, tip over sensor, fuel pump, injector, and traced wires from the injector back to the ECM. All test procedures were done according to the test procedures in the OEM manual I downloaded, next step in the manual is to test a known good ECU, unfortunately I don't have access to a good 2008-2012 ECU so I'm going to order a new one from my local dealer today.

I asked about your fuel injector because the plug is so small and hard to test. I got myself an 12v LED globe and straightened out the prongs and plugged it into the injector socket, and kicked the bike over, easiest way to see if there is power because the LED lights up but it has to be plugged in the right way around. I did the same thing with my injector, I removed the subframe and I also had no spray from my injector but it tested good on the bench. I replaced everything electrical and it didn't fix anything. In the end I found out my fly wheel had gone bad lost its magnetism and didn't produce enough power, I replaced it with a used one and my bike started second kick and has been running perfect ever since. It was an expensive exercise to learn. If you know someone with a fly wheel you can borrow I would try that first before buying expensive parts that you don't need. I hope this helps. Good luck.

Just thought of something I did, I'm not sure what you call it in the US but get yourself a can of Aerostart and give it a spray directly into your throttle body with the throttle held open and try starting your bike straight away if you have spark at your spark plug your bike should start. And if it starts and stays running you definitely have a power supply problem and I would change your flywheel. Make sure your tank and fuel injector are all plugged in and ready to go.

Already did that with a spray bottle of fuel. Bike will pop when you are spraying fuel but won't run as the injector is pushing no fuel.

Did you check both wires going from ECM to injector plug for continuity in case either wire broke? Should be a green/white wire and a red wire

If you put 12v DC to the injector, you may have ruined it, they work of sub-5v. Test the injector resistance itself, RMZ450 injector resistance is around 10 ohms (9.5-11.5) @ 68 F. Also test front each prong to ground (should be inifinty ohms)

Thanks for the info, guess I better re test my injector. Can I use the same 4.5v source to bench test that I'm using to set the TPS?

After chasing my tail for 2 weeks on this project I finally bought a new fuel injector, bike started in 5 kick and is running good. Thanks to everyone who helped/ gave advise.
