I just rebuilt the rear shock on my bike and the only place that I could find locally to fill it with nitrogen could only give me 128 PSI with their set up before it equaled out. The manual calls for 142 PSI will 128 be enough? How will it affect my suspension? It's off a 2001 rm 250.

With lower nitrogen pressure, the suspension will seem softer overall. Normal charges are 130-145 psi. At 128 psi, you probably won't notice a big difference, but if you should probably have more pressure put in if you can come across another shop.

You can compensate by adding a little bit of compression on the "clickers"

A-kit and stock suspension will take different psi in the shocks. Depending on you valving will help determine the psi for your shock. For stock valving on your bike run 150 psi

Would 150 psi work for the stock shock on a 1986 rm250?

My 97 rm250 calls for 140psi. Ive tried 100, 120, 125, 130, and 140 and at 110psi my shock is excellent. At 140 its a harsh ride, which was a problem on these bikes according to the magazine tests. Id vary the charge from 110-140 psi to see how u like it.

Ok, so I'll start at 100 and work my way up. Thanks for the help

The point of nitrogen pressure is to keep the shock from cavitating on the compression stroke. you just need to make sure you have enough pressure to keep this from happening. and that thresh hold will be determinded by how stiff your valving stack is. 120ish should be ok but is on the edge. if the shock fades out then your cavitating the oil.

I do a ton of Race Tech gold valves in my shop and these are all set up at 175psi in the shock. Ive never had a harsh issue with even that much pressure so you can always go up just try to not go too low.

Yeah, 100psi might be too low for you. I trail ride and fireroad exclusively and I do NOT do any jumps. If you jump a lot id go 120 as a starter.

The reason I asked is because my shock is real bouncy, probably needs new seals, but the canister is empty so I figured I would just try refilling it before I spend the money to rebuild it to see if that fixes it. I'll probably start off with 120 psi and go up if I need to.

I had a friend that worked for an air conditioning company feel my shock with 160psi. You should try giving an air conditioning company a call, they have tanks more than capable to reach what you need
