Homemade work station?

I've been thinking about building a lift to put the bike on when I'm servicing it.....I don't want to spend 350 bucks on a heavy steel hydraulic lift so I've been tossing around making either a wood frame fixed platform, or possibly a tube type that would lift several inches for adjustability.

Does anyone have a homemade station or want to give up an idea or two?

I have one of the $300 dollar hf lifts and its great as long as you aren't raising and lowering it all day. I spotted this over on chopcult's thread about home made lifts and its a good cheap alternative, just a small bike lift that has been extended with a platform on top of it.

these can also be nice but you wont be changing any oil or skid plates with it, also the balance goes all to shit if you pull the forks/swingarm
I have 2 of these from pit posse and ive never had a problem pulling off the front or rear as long as i have it tightened down with the hooks on the footpegs. Well worth the money.

That look like a narrow foot print for a bike to be up off the ground. I would think it would have a tendency to be easy to tip over.

these things are great,,, i put some small castor wheels on mine so i can push the bike and stand outta the way when I'm done..
Doesn't feel unstable and can take the back or front end off the bike and it still don't tip..

I made this work stand for elevating the bike It makes things easier for me to work on anything on the bike.
Simple torsion box construction. And you can use your ramp to roll the bike on it
I use a lever type stand to get the wheels off the table.
I don't think I could go without a work table now.

^^ This is the idea I had in mind Pat....I've started one very much like it, although it's a little taller and rather crude made from scraps I have in the rafters. Does it have stability issues? How are the legs supported, just that they are captured?

I made a torsion box , the top&and bottom skin is 3/4" bonded with glue to the center core which is a matrix of 3/4" plywood on edge.
The legs attach to the Core. With a rim of maple. Very strong and stability is not an issue. I estimate the table could hold 250 /350 lbs yet weighs less than 45 lbs.

I've used a old hospital bed bought from auction before that was really good, just use the base that is height adjustable and add your own solid top.
