I received my restyled radiator shrouds for my YZ250. I had some old shroud graphics and put them on but don't like them and pulled them off. Thus the conundrum. How to get gummy glue off. Any suggestions? Alcohol ain't really getting it. Soap and hot water are useless.

I had the same problem last week, Get goo gone, and soak them over night in it. then wipe it all off the next day and repeat until its all gone, took me 2-3 nights to get all of it off mine, or just buy new shrounds thats the easy way Tongue

You can try using a blow dryer or heat gun to warm up the shrouds then either with alcohol or decal off from Decal Work's decal off, .then you should be good to go.

I've had really good luck with Plexus. It's made to shine plastic, and for some reason it balls the glue right up and the stuff literally falls off. You'll probably have to wash the residue off with soapy water or alcohol when you're done but it will work really well.
Another way is spraying contact cleaner into a rag and wiping until you have no more fingerprints, but I don't really like that method.

Thanks, guys! I've never heard of Plexus, but I'll look for it. Where do you find it? Never heard of Decal Off either, but Plexus will probably be available locally.

Lay a rag over top of the glue, and soak it in contact cleaner. Let it sit for a couple of minutes, and wipe it off. Voila. Done.

Any shop that has a bunch of cleaners and oils like Cycle Gear should have Plexus. It's not cheap, it's like $15 a can.

Heading to Cycle Gear today, TX. I'll pick up a can. Sounds like a good all-around plastic cleaner anyway. Thanks for the tip!

What an epic battle this ended up being - and I can only blame myself. The shrouds, as noted previously, came clean with the Plexus.

So, now it's time to remove the old shrouds and install the clean, restyled shrouds. Easy enough. NOT.

The top bolt on the old shrouds - the one closest to the gas cap - would not come out (both sides). To top it off, my not even a year-old YZ's barrel nuts (embedded in the fuel tank) were spinning as I tried to loosen the nut. To make a long story short, I got them off with needle-nose channel locks and pretty much destroying the bushings. Anyway, all back together now with the new shrouds in place.

I should have known, because my 2008 YZ450F did this same thing, but I bought it used and assumed the guy that had it before me had caused it. The lesson learned is this: every now and again, those shroud bolts have to be pulled and lubricated. I had never done anything with them except ensure they were snug - being very careful to NOT tighten them. That is not enough. They must be periodically removed and lubricated or they will seize into the barrel nut and become a pain to remove. LESSON LEARNED.

Sounds like anti-sieze would work great in the barrel nuts in the tank as a preventative. Too bad they're already loose... You could try an epoxy repair, but it will probably never be good as new.

WD-40 melts adhesive pretty well. Just soak it and let it sit for a while.
