It is -30ish up here now (-22 for Yanks) with at least a foot of snow on the ground & I guess it is time to put everything away for a few months.

I'm wondering if it destroys goggles to pull the lenses & throw them in the washing machine on the delicate cycle? Would it help if I leave them in the goggle bag?

How do you guys clean them?

I just put them in a bucket with some warm water and dish soap. Swish them around a bit and rinse.

I've got six pair of goggles I use at races. Each has been in the washer several times and the foam is in great condition. I don't wash them every week but probably 3 or 4 times a year.

Sweat is the number one enemy of goggle foam. I usually rinse dirty goggles after every race with the hose pipe and hit the dirty areas with Simple Green or Mister Clean. Then after a month or three throw them in the wash with no lenses. I'd do them more but I run those nose guard jobbies on my Scotts and they are a MAJOR pain to re-install.

I throw my 4 pair of X-Brand (EKS Brand) in the wash twice a month every month... never a problem, going on a full year

Oakley's love a good washing. I do mine every 5 rides or so. They are 3 years old and are just starting to get to where the foam is looking ragged.

Woolite/Zero - whatever it's called in your market. It's the stuff our favorite people wash their bras and "delicates" in.

It won't kill the elastic or even plastic parts.

I tried it for the first time this year. It worked great. We have those front loading washers though. I don't know if that helped them from being destroyed.

I wash my goggles almost weekly in a machine never had a problem with SPY, Oakleys, or the langstons I have. Never wash in hot water or put them in a dryer, always use gentle cycle and a mild soap like woolite, most heavy detergents have chemicals in them that will eat away at the foam. I prefer just a little spray and wash or equivalent on all my gear and mild soaps in cold water with a gentle cycle after a cold water soak for 30 mins or so.
