my buddy is about 6'4 and rides a 07 yzf450 that is basically stock. He has trouble staying forward on the bike on starts and over jumps causing him to always be front end high. What are the best changes to make to help his body position? Taller bars, tall seat, foot pegs....etc?

I'm 6'-6". The only mod I make on my modern bikes are RC High renthal bars. On my vintage bikes I make a plate to relocate the bar mounts forward because the bars are located much further back on the older bikes.

Tall seats raise the rider's CG, which affects cornering. Lowboy pegs increase the chances of catching a foot in a rut and twisting a knee.

Springs (most dudes that are 6'4'' are not light...) and bars are first IMO.

Being 6'4" myself I know the troubles of getting a bike to feel comfortable and balanced when it was designed for a guy who is 5'9" and probably 175 lbs.. Over the years I have moved away from using tall seats as they do tend to move the riders weight higher. My best solution is to move the bars up and forward, and get the fastway pegs and mount them in the lowboy position which drops them a half inch. It's amazing what a half inch will do to open up the bike, same with the bars. Don't go to far, and remember to keep it balanced.

Thanks for the tips guys. We know we need to get the suspension right first.

I use a 3/4 in bar raiser that sits under the bars and between the bar clamps. Always made it comfortable for me to stand without being hunched over. Mine are custom made but this is the same general thing:

Those work pretty well. The only downside is that if you need/want to roll your bars forward past 0 degrees, the geometry will cause the ends of the shorter bar up past level. With a taller bar, like the RC High, you can roll the bars forward a little more and still end up with a level bar.

I have a set of RC HIGH twin wall renthals with about 8 rides on them. Basically new. I'm 6 2 and felt there where a tad to high. marc@kilbydeuce.com if you are interested.

I would keep the pegs were they are. That bike is light on the front, so set the sag at little higher and raise the forks in the trees to the limit. Softer setting on the front forks will settle that bike better in the turns.

Get a top triple clamp that lets you move the bars forward. Tall bars just bring them closer to you. I'm 6'6 and I find that moving the bar clamps forward works well, making them taller doesn't.

Lowering the pegs down and back 1/2" makes a huge difference for me, some advise against it because of ruts etc. but I haven't had a problem. I used to run a tall seat but not anymore, just bar position and footpegs. Some bikes are a better starting point than others for tall guys, I don't know where the 07 yzf fits in that department.

I like tall seat but med foam. It is kind of in the middle between a tall stiff and what a low would be if you weighed 160lb.

1) Higher bars
2) higher seat
3) Wider footpegs, not lower (assuming your buddy has at least size 11)
4) Thicker grips, like Tag Rebounds (assuming your buddy has larger hands)

I went back to the stock seat last weekend. It does handle better especially in rutted turns. I would now say taller bars and stock seat.

I'm 6'3 and I like stock seat, tall pegs, and pro taper Carmichael bend bars (low bend). But I'm only 20 and I like the aggressive riding posture
