Wondering what I should run?

First four stroke in a LONG time and haven't a clue what I should run.

Honda GN4 10W-40, ran it in our Yamaha's for years. One of the best oils out there IMO

I'm no expert on this and I'm not trying to call you out on anything but doesnt make more sense to run an oil that's designed to be ran in motorcycles rather that an oil that's designed to be ran in diesel engines?

I know quite a few people that used to run the Rotella and they all swore by it. That being said, I feel the same way, that's why I always ran the GN4.

I"ve run Honda gn4 oil in my Yzf"s & crf"s and rotella in both also, never an oil related issue. It's all about the ratings of the oil & rottella is rated Ma & Jaso , that is same as gn4. I currently run Rotella in all my bikes with no issues. I keep strict records of all oil changes based off hr meter readings, every 2 hrs, I change the oil. I have experimented going back & forth with gn4 & rotella, I cannot tell the difference, performance wise between the 2. I understand feeling peace of mind when using motorcycle specific oils, if that makes you feel better, to each his own. I feel better changing my oil every 2 hrs, no matter what oil I have used at the 3-4 h r mark it comes out black, I don't have the urge to make the oil last longer with Rotella due to the Lower cost. My 2 cents

My dad has used Yamalube in all my bikes. Never had an issue with it and the engines last for ever.

See sandman768's response. I echo his sentiment exactly.

I change my oil at 4 hours and it comes out clean. Idk I guess it really doesn't matter.

Just wondering, it seems like nobody on this board uses motul 300V... That's what my bike's manual suggests and that's what i run.

Thank you for the responses. I guess its just all based on preference as far as oil goes. I have always ran the Yamalube brand oil in my bikes, be it four stroke or two stroke and never had an issue. I do change my oil every other ride which may help in that regard.

I have found this link from an older post that has some good info regarding the Rotella oil.

How much oil do these bikes take? I left the manual at my buddy's house and I am trying to change the oil after breaking it in. I use 1000cc in my 450, but I am assuming the 250s take a bit less.

I've used rotella 10-30 in my last 3 bikes with no oil related issues. Originally Rekluse recommended it for use with their clutch and now I've just stuck with it. Since I change my oil very often(3-4 rides), It's cheaper then buying the oil KTM reccomends.

I use AMSOIL 10-40 in all my bikes. No issues. A friends uncle is a pretty high volume dealer so I get it for $60/case.
