My uncle recently let me have his 2008 zook so I could race the summer and winter nationals at Ponca and Mini O's. The bike was a brand new left over "08 that he bought in 2010. The bike is 100% stock except for the fmf slip on. It is sputtering out on the bottom end really bad. The only time it runs awesome is when really high in the rpm's. I've heard it needs to be remapped or I should run strictly race gas. What do you all think? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hopefully you got the updated 09 engine when it was offered. The bike should have come with 2 (two) jetting clips, one leaner than stock and one richer. I've got an 09 and a 2010 but not close to stock.
You might try Yosh, they have some great things for the Zook!

You can use stock mapping and pump gas, but of course being remapped and race fuel would def help! Also check your vin # with suzuki or a local dealer , they can run your vin and make sure you have the 09 engine, its a free replacement! not sure when the offer expires.

Thanks guys! I appreciate the help. I believe the engine is an updated 2009, atleast that's what my uncle said since he already checked. I took off the tank and shrouds and am checking all the electrical units (cleaning them out and re-greasing) I also put in a new spark plug since the other one was still stock and extremely dirty. And WFO, 2 cupplets

My buddy had to remap his 09 for a pipe. And race gas never hurts. my '10 honda ran a little rough on idle with 93 octane pump gas. Started mixing it 50/50 with 110 VP or sunoco, definetely makes it smoother and crisper. And a local auto parts store has sunoco 110 for $7/gal, which isn't that bad compared to $3.50 for pump gas.

I put a slip-on on an 08 and didn't have it all of a sudden run bad. Did it run before with the pipe? I am wondering if you don't have something else going on.

You might check out the fuel filter on the fuel pump, I have seen those get clogged up also.

I have only ridden it 3 times and all 3 times it has done it. My uncle said it ran fine before the slip on, but he only put about 15 easy hours on it. I did find that the hot start had zero slack in it whatsoever and when I turned all the way to the stops on the left it would engage a small bit. I'm going to try putting a stock pipe back on it tomorrow.

P.owercommmander has a map for fmf slip-on,OR you can have your ecm program.
