2000 cr125 project and pointers

I just picked up a roached 2000 cr125.

I talked to my friend Tom at TMR. He built Honda's amateur 125s during that time, and is going to make me a 144 stroker. I considered the HPP engine, but the simplicity and parts availability of the RS125-style cylinder has me going in this direction. Does anyone have any additional pointers? I'm leaning towards keeping the 5-speed. A Vforce, Keihin, and 05 air boot seem to be the way to go. Seriously considering picking up some 00-03 cr250 showas to go with it.

Also, if anyone has some nice parts to unload, let me know.

For sure do the suspension of you don't do the HPP swap. The forks will fit right into your clamps. Go with an 06 and up fork if you can.

Wowzers..... roached is an under statement! Great bikes, we had a 2000 and an 01 and they were super solid. With a Vforce and a shorty she'll rip!!

you didn't say your ability level... sound like fun. my point being if your not decently fast save your $$ on the motor/susp mods. I just finished up my 02 project.. I kept it simple considering it was just for something fun to ride.. considering how low of hours my 02 had when I got it, I did a fresh oem top end, opened up the reed boot (the opening into the reeds are crazy small, something like 21mmx31mm. I got it to 29mmx37mm) , 05+ airboot, fmf fatty, fmf shorty, 13/53 gearing and stiffer springs in the stock kyb susp. im 6'3", 210lb the thing absolutely ripped and ran great.. I did play with the sag some and the clickers, but got pretty comfy on it. I thought the stock kyb stuff actually worked pretty well. I did a full rebuild on the forks, shock untouched. so unless u can really take advantage of the showa stuff save your money..

Thanks for the input guys. I'm into wrenching and projects more than I ride, lately. This is a play bike/guest bike for when I'm not busy with the 500. It's been about 10 years since I seriously raced, and my job requires me to be in one piece on Mondays. I can't hang it up though, so I bury my head in projects that often result in a bike that I can't take full advantage of. I'm strangely comfortable with that.

I will be doing a couple +25 Am events on the 500, at my usual rate of 1-2 per year. Other than that, I'm a practice day hero.

I used to have one. I found the fmf fatty and turbine core silencer to be a good combo as far as silencers. The pro circuit system was good too but it dented super easy. Super solid bike just had absolutely no bottom end. My cr 80 was faster off the gate.
