Well I had all my photography equipment stolen from some low life that broke into a bunch of cars on my blobk..I had my locked metal gear case under the back seat (like a safe) and they stole everything, All Canon- markIIn ,70-200 2.8, 300 2.8,17-40,40d,28-135 and some other stuff..Pretty devastating to say the least but its n the past and im gearing up for the nationals already got a used mark II n with only 1600 shutters on it and a new 70-200 2.8..For now I just want to get a good wide angle..I had the 17-40 and liked it alot but is there another that people like better than the 17-40?
Id like to hear others opinions..
Thanks
Hoss

That's just the shits, Hoss. What a loss.

17-40 is a great wide for moto; not necessary to lay out the bread for the 16-35.

I got the Tokina 12-24, and it works good on the 1d's, a little vignetting from 12-15, but plenty wide and a little cheaper than even the 17-40. Another option is the Canon 15mm fisheye

Damn dude, that sucks.

I've got a 17-40 and I really like it, but rarely use it. Just too close to the action for me sometimes. I also have a 24-70 that gets quite a bit of use on the track.

Damn Hoss
That friggen sux..

Did you set up the camera info in the metadata to always record your name in the exif info of every image?
I gotta believe that if you did that then there has to be a way to track any images the end up online that come from the camera...

Sorry I can't help with the lens choice. But I can say that the only lens I am considering getting to go along with my 24-70 is the 15mm fisheye.

I picked up a 24-70 before the N.O. SX and used it this weekend. I doubt I'll use my 17-40 again. I'll be selling it as I have no other use for it. I'm like Homey, I'm considering a fisheye for those every now and then "cool" shots.

For those shooting with Nikons... 14-24 bar none.

Pro's: Girls buy ME drinks when I pull this hog out.

Con's: Same girls don't buy me drinks when I don't pull it out.

I've got a Tamron 17-55 2.8 for my 40D and I absolutely love it. It is so sharp, as sharp is my 70-200 2.8 L.

The Nikon 14-24 2.8 is the best hands down. I like the 11-16 2.8 tamron to go a little wider. Very sharp. But if you are looking to shoot bikes. Fisheyes are cool but... the 15 diag fisheye only works well on FF camera, There is not much fisheye look on the crop sensors. Get a 8mm circular for crop sensors and crop out the unwanted stuff, there are some other good options. Depends on what you are going to shoot with the wide angle.

Sorry to hear about the theft. I have never had anything stolen but it sure makes make me more take better care as to where my camera gear is.
