It's probably going to be a nice camera. IMO, which has been stated and argued about elsewhere, if you are primarily shooting MX and have a budget for a body around the price of a new 7d, you ought to consider a clean 1DmkII or mkIIN. The non "N" is going for around a grand here in Norcal.

Thanks FTE, won't be shooting to much MX as this is just my hobby but i have a grand son almost ready for BMX. The 20D with an older 80-200 2.8 L (black) dosn't focus real well in fast sports. I allways manual focus in MX (lots of practice with the old T90 and a 300 2.8 FD velvia days) and was woundering if the new 7D and a new 80-200 2.8 is would track faster? I also like the larger display (eyes are getting bad) and shoots HD video.

Thanks
Marty

I would say the new 7D is a better camera then a 1D markII imo. Newer chipset, newer digic 4, bigger resolution...read the specs of both cameras and what they can do. I would buy a 7D over a 1D markII.

Thanks Stephane, The 2xl game rocks! I can't belive my Iphone has an MX game that is so fun. When i first saw it i thought a phone mx game would be a joke but its a must have.

How much difference would an older 80-200 2.8 L (72mm) black lens (10 years old ?)
and a newer 70-200 2.8 is L ? I'm thinking about buying a used one, anything to watch out for?

I have a 7D. The video is great. The stills are about the same quality as my Canon 1DS Mark 2. Not up to the quality of the 1DS Mark 3 though.
Noise at high iso (1600 and 3200) is about equal to the 1DS Mark 2. The AF is fast.

It's night and day, the black lens has the old style focus motor (AFD) while the white ones are Ultra sonic powered, you'll be amazed. Find one a doctor or dentist is selling and not one from an MX shooter or if you do get one from one of us have it checked out at Canon.

Ive just ordered a Canon 7D pick it up tomorrow. I have a Mark III now and going out Friday to do a comparison. I wanted the 7D for video as much as for photos.. I have a 1 year old daughter and thought having both camera and video would work. I seen Cudby's video with the 7D and its just amazing granted its coming from him but shows it can be a fantastic tool in moto.

I bought the Canon 7D a couple of months ago and am very happy with it . I did have to buy a new computer as my old one was not fast enough to edit video. let me know how your comparison goes. I need to get out and shoot some moto with my new camera. it might be time to get out to some races.
