this was the last hpp honda motor ever they killed it in 98 when they stuck it in the al frame, this one is a 99 last year of hpp, even tho its a slug this thing is still faster than the 2000-2007 , cr125, i sold this thing to my buddy last year for 1500 bucks, and we rode at etown the day after Nj sx last weekend i forgot he had it its a sweety

thats rite Hubbard 1500, you dont come visit you miss the deals!

Ha! Blast from the past! I ran right out in 98 and bought one new, like riding a park bench. HPP cylinder with that awful 5 speed transmission. That one sure does look mint though. I'll buy it for $1000 next time they have a fire sale because their buying 6 new bikes that they'll hate.

That thing mint Pete. Even though they're slow at least it's faster than my slug of 01 cr125. Our '95 cr125 on the other hand will have the best 125 motor honda ever designed. Kinda tempted to do an AF conversion with a crf chassis but already too into the restoration. Haha

I am not so sure about the 95 being the "best" engine ever designed, the 87 bike might have something to say about that.

i can say that my 98 has way more lowend And overall power than the 89 cr i had a few years ago. I did like the front end feel of the 89 tho. not sure why no one likes the 5 speed trans. do u really use 6th? hell i could take 5th out. dont need it during any harescrambles lol.

I dunno, the 1979 with it's weird 23 inch front wheel was pretty bad.

The best is always the bike you own and love.
The worst is always the one your best mate owns (that you'd secretly rather have than your own).

Dirt Bike Magazine said it so it must be true....

Funny how people love the '79 today, The mags said all you had to do was swap the shock, the forks, the front wheel, the head, port it and it was right there with the RM....

I only own, ride and race these bikes so dont take my word for it. The best source is always someone who read a test on it. Lol

The 1986 CR125 isn't too bad either but then I'm biased!

Honda Lover 707 I am no expert but I think the hp spread over the years from say 85-current is about 4-5 hp give or take.

I had an 86 and an 87. The 86 motor was bad to the bone. It barked hard off the bottom and revved out pretty good too. The 87 was a bit smoother, but still a great motor and a better all-around machine than the 86.

Thanks, the 86 Factory bikes of Bailey, O'Mara, Johnson and Dymond had rear disc brakes. I tried to build mine to look as close to the Factory bike as possible.Tha aluminium clutch cover is now painted black to match the engine. I have a 1986 CR250 as well and am building a 1986 CR500.

I know I will hear from the haters, but I have a 1981 CR125 complete, that I got as payment and I am thinking of selling, it is in really good shape. I have not tried to start it but was told it ran, but I have to many projects to restore this bike. What do you guys think is a fair price?

I will try to upload a photo later if I can get it taken care of.

Thanks for the info.

Somewhere around 750-800.

>I have not tried to start it but was told it ran

If it's not running (I'd verify this if I as you), then it's going to impact the price. If you want an idea what comparable bikes are going for, go to Mark's Vintage Site. Fully race-ready '82s (a much improved bike) usually get ~1200-1500
