Anybody remember these? I found a sheet of thick plastic in the street. A heat gun and a little work making some aluminum brackets . I think it looks ok. I'm sure somebody wants one for their vintage bike. They are easy to make.

Thanks. I get bored. Don't think I'll keep it on the rm. Maybe try it on my 79 cr125. I seen on ebay they sell sheets of plastic. The stuff I made mine out of seems to be a thin butcher block material.

I had one of those things on my 79 RM.
I should have spent more time working on my riding than working on my bike
I dig your RM. Wish I had one now

Random guy finds random sheet of plastic in street.

Thinks, must make old school DG air scoop.

Laughing

Yep, think you’ll fit in just fine around here!

Grinning I made one for my 1980 125 Husky by cutting a windshield wiper fluid jug in half and zip tying it on.

I seen that one back in the 80s. One guy we raced with made one out of a small bucket.

I own the one on the left here, I dont think it was very expensive. $50 maybe?? I have wanted to get another or get one made. Tried to get DC plastics to do them. Now that i found this thread it gives me an idea but does anyone know where you can get the right kind of plastic in the right yellow colour for a suzuki?

I was considering covering it with yellow vinyl. But put it on the shelf. My mounting system is definitely better than the old style. I made aluminum brackets to mount. Mounts at tank bolt in front and pet cock and on frame in lower front. I looked for plastic on ebay but nothing appeared to be thick enough. What bike you putting it on?

Figured I would show you my mounts in case it would help. I counter sunk the rivet holes so I could cover it with vinyl if I wanted to. Heavy foam on frame bracket. on

Well i need yellow for a suzuki. I looked on Mc Master Carr for plastic. White is easy to find.. Are you able to take a photo from sitting on the bike looking down so i can see how much the scoop sticks out to the side and how muhc it may be in the way of riders knee?

I put it back on to show you. I trimmed mine till I was happy with the clearance. You can pretty much put it where you like.

What do you think of a big blue DG sticker on it? I bet you'd would fool alot of people.i
Great work.
It looks pretty convincing
I put a Fox Forks sticker on 97 RM forks. I was shocked when I say 70%of comments at the track thought they were real Fox Forx.
I had a 79 Rm with a DG scoop. Great bike

It was on the bike when I got it. I was gonna put a moto x fox on it and my son said he liked the blue. What do you think?

I’ve got a 1980 RM125 I’d love to make one of these for. Yours turned out amazing! Would you be able to give me the specs on the size of it at each end (before and after bending) What’s the thickness of the material you used? Definitely have to make one now. Thinking about using a yellow or blue cutting board.

Check out some YouTube vids on plastic and Rit Fabric Dye.

Thanks for the specs. Was that originally a front plate? Were the dog ears In the top pic kept on? Bit hard to tell because the bottom pic shows it wrapped around something and the top of the scoop looks squared off. Just curious what it’s wrapped around too.

No the photos with dimensions i posted are original NOS DG scoop. The last photo confuses me too. I took these pics 3 or years ago and theres an optical illusion in it and i cant figure out which side/end i have taken that photo at. Its just sittig on a box one one end but i cant figure it out. After staring at the pic long enought before it has become obvious to me before. its packed right away now so i cant quickly grab it to try simulate that position again.
