These model 100 have steel swingarms.
Is it possible to adapt the aluminum swingarm and components off of a '82 YZ125 to the '82-83 YZ100?
If so, is it a straight forward bolt-on or is there more to it?

If you caught the little article on MXA a few weeks ago and saw the DMC bike he made recently according to the info it didn't go into full details. But he put the alum swinger from the yz 125 on the 100 and the linkage parts cause they are a stiffer rising rate curve. It just said that they modded the swing arm for use with the non floating rear brake of the 100 my guess is they added a tab to the inside of the swing arm for the rear brake backing plate. They didn't really say but they put '86 IT 200 front forks on the bike to get a front disc setup. It really inspired me to wanna do a build like this myself I used to have a 1982 J model one of my fav bikes from back then.

Ok I guess I sick to the basic setup and replace the swingarm bushings. Does anyone know where I might get these? Maybe aftermarket?

Those YZ100s were some of the best bikes ever made. They don't get the credit they are due IMO.

I was on the Race Tech web site looking up recommended spring rates for my bikes. Just for kicks I looked up the 82/83 YZ 100 and in the notes it said excellent linkage design. I always thought the design was a dud, but RT says otherwise.

I installed the racetech spring on the rear and it made a huge difference. Of course these bikes were sprung for kids, not 190lb adults. Yes, this bike handles very well.

Aluminum swingarm and shock from a 1982/83 Yamaha IT175 is a easy conversion. For some reason the IT175 rear axles are hard to find, you can also use a rear axle from a 1980 YZ125. You can use the YZ100 linkage or the IT175 same same. Use a chain rub block from a 1984 IT200 it is a one piece and bolts on to the IT175 swingarm. You can use the stock YZ100 rear wheel. The IT175 rear shock is good up to about 185 pound rider. Rebuild/Revavle/Respring Noleen J6 supspension victorville ca. Ask for Clark, 760-955-8757

Loretta's 1982 Champ. Best bike I ever had. Good memories from this thread.

Handled awesome, super reliable and easy to work on. Wish I would have kept this bike. Hoping to find one someday to restore.

My '83 handles great and is a blast to race in the 100cc class in local EVO vintage series. Had the rear shock serviced and added a high-rate spring from racetech.

How much weight do you save with the IT 175 Swingarm/shock conversion? IT 200 won't work?

I have a 1982 YZ 125 swingarm, shock, and linkage sitting in my garage. Would this be a a bolt on item?

The 82 YZ100 was one of my favorite bikes. I raced 100 and 125 in 1983 and I always felt faster on the 100.

Dick Mitchell owns Mitchell motors in Bolton he works on my vehicles i recently trued some rims for a KTM he rides in the woods

You save about two pounds. 82-82 IT175 swingarm is bolt on. Can use stock YZ100 rear wheel. You can also use 82-83 IT175 shock.
1982 YZ125 swingarm works but there are wheel issues.Can't use YZ125 linkage. YZ125 shock is longer, can't be used. YZ125 is full float. YZ100 is not. Diffrent axle size also. It can be done, I have YZ100 with both setup's. The IT set up is the way to go.

Hi Paul, I race with Sabatini here in Houston in the EVO series. You Cali folks are just flat out fast on these bikes and have been an inspiration when it comes to the 100 class.
Yes, you are correct. The only thing out of the YZ125 rear setup that fits, is the swingarm......can't use the YZ100 rear wheel either because of axle differences and chain-adjusters.

does anybody no where i can find a 1st gear for a 82yz100j i rebuilt mine a few years ago and bored it to a 110 and was driving around the street and first gear stripped and will a 77-81 gear fit
