This is how I bought it. At the moment its completely apart being built up for next season of vintage mx.
It took me less time to have it down to the frame than it does to get to the pilot jet on my 450
I've just fit 98 RM conventionals to it. Once I had it stripped I couldn't believe how fragile the frame looked. So I cut a few pieces of metal to strengthen up the swing arm area and now to the point of finding someone to weld them in. Then off to the powder coat guy. This all started by getting a new fender and tires only and somehow gained momentum to a major project. I think the biggest push for me was going to Unadilla rewind and there was not a single rear fender number plated KX 125 or 250 to be found.
Everyone's projects here have given me an inspiration to do something like this.. I am humbled by the finish projects I've seen. I can see people's passion for mx in the bikes they have given new life to
I did see a mint restro 83 125 at a vint race at Budds Creek back in 08 or 09... Tempted to buy. They are out there

I do have two 84's that I would be willing to part with.
#1 is a complete running bike. Needs resto.
#2 is just a rolling chassis with a stuck engine.
PM me if you need anything.
The '83 KX-125 was my first "big bike" after getting too big for 80's...
I had a run of KX's through the 90's.
Of all the KX-125's that I rode, the 1985 was the best in my opinion.
I'd restore one to re-live those days, but unfortunately I didn't stop growing (both vertically and horizontally)!!!
Kids today . They think they invented style. And I'll tell you what . They don't know style. Matching JT gear with a MotoStar and boot savers. That's style. today's JT gear should have new era designed boot savers . I'd run them
Yes-- you are correct about Aquasco. I can't begin to guess how many pictures exist with the Chalk Point silos in the background, since a majority of Aquasco pictures were usually taken in the infield.
I'd love to see some pictures from deep in the wooded sections.
I'd also love to see the track again. I've seen some pictures of the property (old drag strip, etc) that were taken fairly recently, and obviously you can do a Google aerial search, and still make out the infield section of the track.
The last time I ever was there was probably around '91/'92 before they got shut down..
Work takes me down towards Waldorf, and I think I might just drive the back to the track if I ever have some time to go back there... I realize I cant go all the way back to the track, but I would like to see if I can even find the entrance all these years later!!
I assume you also raced at Aquasco??
I think the one of me that I posted yesterday was from the very first race I ever had on a 125, and from what I can see I was looking a little stiff in the picture! LOL!
I was on an 80 one week prior and my Dad, more than likely tired of me crashing my brains out every week and/or blowing up engines, came home with a KX-125 and my KX-80 was gone. Obviously, it was beyond nice to have a Dad that supported and encouraged my racing, but I remember how weird it was to have made the switch after years on a mini.
I grew so fast that I was actually racing a 250 by the following year as well.
...Besides the one I posted yesterday, I'll have to try to see about some others from the good old days!
Post a reply to: Where have all the 1982-1983 KX125's gone?
