I've been playing around with collecting Vintage gear. I picked up an NOS electro. that one I'm sure is NOS not a repro. The other stuff not so sure (Lesson learned the hard way). Anyhow I have no clue about this stuff. if I had the Electro painted like the old DG helmets will it take away from the value? does the NOS lid even have value? It has the tags still attached and I have the box.

What I'd like to do with it

Or paint my old lid which I'd rather not as it has sentimental value to me

That nos electro has to have value. My 2 cents would be don't touch it because its nos or your old lid because its sentimental value.
Get another lid to do the DG one, which is another cool idea.

It depends if you value the NOS helmet. Do you really want the DG replica and think it's worth it?
I have a NOS JT ALS2 painted in Bailey 86 style and it is well worth it to me. It sits inside the house and gets shown occasionally with my 1986 CR250 Bailey replica and draws lots more attention than a stocker.
Don't think that you are going to pay off your mortgage with the proceeds of the sale of the helmet.
Just go for it. (in my opinion) Just make sure you use a good painter, I've heard Terry Hunter is good at this stuff.

I'm not looking to retire LOL. It's for me. I think down the road I might just buy a new helmet and have it painted. I'm working on a man cave. I'm not looking for the "Newman NOS" Man cave more of the support class cave Whistling

There you go, you've answered the question yourself!
Now you have to find a half decent helmet that isn't rotten inside and is worth the money to paint.
For me it was a no brainer with the Bailey JT helmet. I have a second NOS one which I will get painted one day as a 1986 MXdN replica to go with my 1986 CR500 that is in progress.
Good luck finding the helmet and show it to us when it is done, we all love that sort of stuff!

Hey dammit.....Smile Just for that, I'mma gonna tell you about my Simon's forks and triple clamps I picked up this weekend for $125.00.

About that DG paint scheme, a friend of mine gave me an old original DG KRW lid. It's rough as shit, but it's an original. I'm sure there were several different layouts but here is one to compare.

I gave the JT visor and face guard to a JT nut in Italy I think. Kept the face fender. I see yours is missing some graphics so let me know if you need this one to copy off of.

For me 100 mile is next door. My usual drive is 2 hours each way and that's the short drive

Paint it up to look like your favorite riders from back in the day. Or like me have Hunter Designs do this nugget to really make the old lid look good.

The Electros were some of the most comfortable helmets I ever wore. The interiors were just plush. I had a new one just like the one in the first picture.

When the Electro wore out, the Bell Mag III that replaced it felt like a tin bucket on my head compared to the Electro.
