Hey guys, I'm getting to have quite a collection of vintage Hondas - from '76 thru '80, and I think some insurance against theft would be a good idea.

who do you guys use that would insure my bikes at their current value, with all the trick parts???

Thanks

Homeowners does not cover motorcycles.
Swatdoc, start with who ever handles your car insurance. Hagertys also is a big name in classic car insurance.

Hagerty just handled a flood claim for me on my old RX7. Easy button with them.

I have talked to many of the bigger names in classic cars, Haggerty etc. They all said something very similar. You tell them what you want insured at a cost you decide then they'll quote it. I use Nationwide for home and auto. They will do the same. So far its just been alarm system, camera, dogs and guns. But that won't help me if I had a fire.

I called Geico, and had them insure my '17 Husky 350, plus up to $6500 worth of "extras". The $6500 doesn't come close to what I have into this bike, but better than nothing. $97 a year so not too bad for a little piece of mind. The only bummer is that you can't just buy theft (comprehensive) coverage - you have to buy liability too, which ups the price.

For vintage bikes, it's tough, because they just go off the depreciated value. I'd hate to see what they would value a 40 year old bike at, that cost less than $1500 when brand new. I need a company that will insure what these bikes are actually worth when they are rebuilt/refinished from the ground up. Most of my bikes would be in the $7-10K range.

I'll give Hagertys a call - thanks for the tip guys

Best thing for protection against bike theft is a very hard to enter/exit building and an alarm along side insurance. Keep in mind no matter what you do a thief can get away with something but if you have an alarm that alerts you or the police you can go out there and beat their ass personally before they get away. Only an alarm or only physically security might result in bike theft.

Homeowners DOES cover contents that are parts. Keep a photo and your receipts of purchases in a file with safe papers.
If your bike is stolen or garage burns down with the $2500 Fox Factory swingarm (that was in the garage) it's covered.
Make sure your contents coverage is appropriate.
