I raced an '84 RM500 just like this one back in the the day......I had an R&M/Answer pipe & silencer, FMF airbox, and I carved so much aluminum out of that jug that it was basically a big arm stretcher every time you''d open it up!!

Anyone have one I can restore/race??

I had the 465, excellent rear suspension. I had a boost bottle on mine and the throttle response was crisp. Plenty of power. A good rider on one today could go head to head with any 450F.

Had a '83 version, remember it had a four speed tranny and I liked that thing a lot except for the headshake.

That Full Floater was awesome in the day.

Mine had headshake also, but you have to stiffen the forks with stronger springs. And lower the rear sag a little. Then it handles good. Brad Lackey won the 500cc World Championship on that bike.

There's one on eBay right now with "Buy it Now" of $1,995. It looks pretty nice, too. I don't know how to make the link work though.

That's the same one as the link from Pipe......I emailed Jim and he said he'd just listed it on eBay. Looks great in the pics.

I'm still looking for an original '84.....so blue frame, aluminum silencer, and RM500 on the seat. I don't really want to turn an '83 into an '84 unless I have to.

Funny how the one thing everyone remembers was the rear suspension. Most of the bike was pretty old tech even when new......but that rear end made up for it......almost!!

PM'd you. I was really looking for an' 84, but an RM500 of any year seems pretty hard to find. I know the only reason I bought mine was because it sat on the showroom floor so long the dealer almost gave it to me when I bought my new 125 & 250!! Not a very popular bike back then, especially in Canada.

The 465 was an awesome machine! I ran it stone cold stock in 79. Sheared off the counter shaft at the Rio Bravo Nat in 79 in the first moto. It was a long tough push back to the pits.

.
Edit: That bike was a 400 in 79. Still a great machine!
