I have a track in Stillwater, Oklahoma. I've put on races for the last 5 years or so and have always had a lot of "luck" with putting on non standard events, and non standard classes. We've ran an indoor mini bike series for 5 years now that draws more entries than most outdoor tracks, run a once a year enduroX type event , etc.
At our track I'm wanting to introduce a "Decade 125cc class". The basic concept is a class for the $1500 bikes. You can find these bikes every day on craigslist for next to nothing. I have already bounced the idea around to some buddies and they have been sending me craigslist links all day! I would like some input on class rules etc. What I would like to see is it catch on kind of like the Marty tripes 100 class has caught on with VMX. Come up with some standard rules and get people to get their local tracks to introduce it as well.
Thoughts?
Back to searching for an 01 yz125, the first bike I ever purchased new on my own.

I just want to make sure I come up with the best possible structure. A lot of people might just say why not just run a 125 2 stroke class. The idea is to make it a "budget racer" class. If you let the 05 YZ in you're basicly letting the 14 in as far as I'm concerned so that's where I think the line should be drawn.
Low enough that it discourages high dollar investments, but high enough that people don't think it's the place to go and buy a sweet 125 for cheap.
I figure that by keeping the overall cost low it'll encourage self sufficient folks that work on their own bikes, and although there wouldn't be any carbon fiber hubs or titanium subframes, the racing would be close. Close racing is exciting, and if it's inexpensive then lots of folks will want to get in on the action.
I have an 06 YZ 125 / 144 and last year's race I was on the gate next to a guy on an '84 CR125 and another guy had an '03 RM and next guy over had an '01 YZ someone even showed up with a mint restored '83 KX 125 etc.
They only started doing it two years ago the first year it was just 125's only and they had 200 entries for just that class alone! they had to add a 250 2t class first year it was added kind of last min so they only got like 70 riders this year it was like 200 125's and about 170 250's. Biggest turn out at washougal ALL year!!
We have a 125 GP gate for only 125's. Yes, you can run current 125's, but except for the KTM, there is really nothing "new" out there.
We also have a Vintages nineties and Vintage eighties classes too.
