I have a track in Stillwater, Oklahoma. I've put on races for the last 5 years or so and have always had a lot of "luck" with putting on non standard events, and non standard classes. We've ran an indoor mini bike series for 5 years now that draws more entries than most outdoor tracks, run a once a year enduroX type event , etc.

At our track I'm wanting to introduce a "Decade 125cc class". The basic concept is a class for the $1500 bikes. You can find these bikes every day on craigslist for next to nothing. I have already bounced the idea around to some buddies and they have been sending me craigslist links all day! I would like some input on class rules etc. What I would like to see is it catch on kind of like the Marty tripes 100 class has caught on with VMX. Come up with some standard rules and get people to get their local tracks to introduce it as well.

Thoughts?

Back to searching for an 01 yz125, the first bike I ever purchased new on my own.

It's a great idea. The 125 vet class does pretty well around here . It's a good idea to allow bikes with 144 kits as there's a lot of them out there. Good luck with this class.

I think its a brilliant idea, and I would like to see it catch on elsewhere.

I race this '96 RM125 at the Vintage AMA series in the "non-current" class. We also have a pretty solid 2 stroke class in our area as well. I think it's a great idea and wish you nothing but success.

I just want to make sure I come up with the best possible structure. A lot of people might just say why not just run a 125 2 stroke class. The idea is to make it a "budget racer" class. If you let the 05 YZ in you're basicly letting the 14 in as far as I'm concerned so that's where I think the line should be drawn.

Makes sense to require the bikes to be at least 10 years old. If you really want to keep the cost down, make it a claimer class, maybe $2000 to claim someone's bike?

Low enough that it discourages high dollar investments, but high enough that people don't think it's the place to go and buy a sweet 125 for cheap.

Hell no, even though my 125 is worth less than 2k, I put so much time and effort into it, it doesn't have a price tag.

I like the idea of a claimer class! I would however put the claim at $2500 so guys can spend a little money making the old bike run right. This way you could also run any 125 you want from any year, but be warned if it's to nice somebody might take it from you, so that would keep out the really new and nice bikes. Take a check? lol

$2000 was just a shot in the dark. It could be $1000, $6000, or anything in-between.

I figure that by keeping the overall cost low it'll encourage self sufficient folks that work on their own bikes, and although there wouldn't be any carbon fiber hubs or titanium subframes, the racing would be close. Close racing is exciting, and if it's inexpensive then lots of folks will want to get in on the action.

It should be a 125 / 150 class ALL years just like how it is ran when they do the 125 dream race now at washougal it's more about just having fun and ridding nothing but 125 smokers. They only break up the skill level for the classes and encourage people to run what ya brung budget racing. Discourage things like points and what not that doesn't matter and takes away the fun factor just like the washougal dream race it's all about bragging rights nothing more. Most the guys in the class don't care they just wanna ride against 125's.

I have an 06 YZ 125 / 144 and last year's race I was on the gate next to a guy on an '84 CR125 and another guy had an '03 RM and next guy over had an '01 YZ someone even showed up with a mint restored '83 KX 125 etc.

They only started doing it two years ago the first year it was just 125's only and they had 200 entries for just that class alone! they had to add a 250 2t class first year it was added kind of last min so they only got like 70 riders this year it was like 200 125's and about 170 250's. Biggest turn out at washougal ALL year!!

Missouri State Mx has a 125 amatuer class that I ride in most of the time. So much fun.

What's a claimer race? Someone could just buy your bike out from under you and you can't refuse if you enter?

Yes that's what it means, if you are worried then don't enter the race.

We have something similar in the NE in our VMX series.

We have a 125 GP gate for only 125's. Yes, you can run current 125's, but except for the KTM, there is really nothing "new" out there.

We also have a Vintages nineties and Vintage eighties classes too.
